993 carrera "S" What does the "S" mean?

If we're going to quote history here, let's get it right.
The first iteration of 356's were just called 356. The second was the A, introduced in 1956, the B's were in model year 1960, and the C's were in MY 1964.
The S engine was introduced in 1952 to differentiate the 1.5 liter 70 HP engine from the 1.5 liter 55 HP. The S meant Super. The '64 & '65 SC was the Super version of the C models, it did not mean Super Carrera.
I agree with those of you who say now the S is mostly marketing. I own a '97 C4S, and I hope my widow has to dispose of it, but the S is mostly sizzle in 993's. Just as Carrera meant something during the 356 years, and what does it really mean now?

I understand the "S" in C4S -- it means a turbo without the turbo. You know, the wide body, brakes, suspension, etc.
But I don't really understand the "S" in C2S. It seems to mean a heavier, wider (and thus slower), carrera that you have to pay $10k more for a fat butt, some gauges with an "S" on it and not much more.
Maybe it means "silly"?

On a 356, Yes! On a 993 S is short for.....S.

And back in the days when the 911 SC were built it was never ever refered to as "Super Carrera" by Porsche!

I find some of the comments funny. As for the faster ones I laughed even louder. Thanks I needed a chuckle. You do realize your car isn't fast right? The only 993 model that is fast is the turbo or GT2. Even the mighty Turbo is slow compared to modern cars with a tune. I personally bought my c4s for the brakes, wide hips, and lower production numbers. I certainly didn't buy it for speed. A NB will never look as good from the rear in my opinion. Is it worth the premium? Depends what you want? In my case yes and would do it again in a heartbeat. If I wanted a NB I would have gotten a 964. Which by the way is on the short list. Do I wish I could have purchased a turbo instead? Absolutely!! Is a NB 993 still sexy? Absolutely!!
