993 carrera "S" What does the "S" mean?
Here on RL the "talk is of NB or WB, whereas the real nomenclature is the normal Carrera or the Carrrera S. So it begs the question: what does the "S" mean?
A little history. I first owned a 356 "Normal", it was referred to (in Germany) as the "Damen" or translated "Ladies", I could still cruise at 90mph in Nevada.
Then came the "1600 Super", an extra I think 5 hp. Thus no longer the Damen... I then bought the 356 "Super 90", it stood for something like 90 DIN hp. Some years later I bought the badged "356 SC" (not the C which stood for "Coupe"), I had the "Super Coupe", an extra few ponies.
So usually, so it seems that the badging had a meaning. On one of my early work orders the 993 S is described on the workorder as "993 Sport". Is that the real meaning of the "S" badge, can anyone enlighten?
More trivia, yeah I know... but it's winter here in Calgary, Canada!!!
What else it there, eh?

"S" is the Porsche abbreviation for "Sport." If I remember correctly, in the case of your 356 SC, "S" stands for "Sport" and "C" is the designation for the third iteration of the 356 series, "A" being the first and "B" being the second iteration of the series. There were both 356 SC coupes and cabriolets.

I understand the "S" in C4S -- it means a turbo without the turbo. You know, the wide body, brakes, suspension, etc.
But I don't really understand the "S" in C2S. It seems to mean a heavier, wider (and thus slower), carrera that you have to pay $10k more for a fat butt, some gauges with an "S" on it and not much more.
Maybe it means "silly"?
