Battery dead - can I use trickle charger to charge it up?
Hi noob question here. I searched the archives but didn't find an exact answer.
I bought a new battery 3 months ago and installed it in my 98 cs2. I was out of town for 3 months and didn't get a chance to drive the car. My wife did drive it once about a month ago with no problem. Since then the battery has gone dead and the car is deep in the garage where it is not easy to get a jump.
Can I get a maintainer or trickle charger to charge the battery via the cig lighter socket?
The car doors were locked. Would it be ok to open the door by turning the key? What I'm worried about is having to reset the immobilizer which looks difficult especially with the alarm going off. Or will the alarm turn off if I have the remote?
Thanks -- any help much appreciated.

To bring a truly flat battery back to life, sometimes you need to throw a traditional battery charger on there. I think mine from Harbor Freight is like this. Either that one or the 55/10 amp version for $10 more.

Most trickle chargers will not unless it has a specific feature that will do so via a switch. I bought one at Wally World last year that did, it ran around $50 and charged the battery overnight on full on charge mode.

Thanks guys.
I'm looking for a CTEK 3300 right now. It's the 2nd time this has happened so I figure I need to invest in one
fast_freddy: what is the brand of your trickle charger with the full-charging switch?

I just used my trickle charger to recharge my battery (wasn't totally dead) after I left a door cracked open
It took two days hooked up, but worked fine. Mine is not on a cig lighter although others have told me that they work fine also.
Good luck with the immobilizer thing ... I've got a '95, so I am blissfully unaware of those issues.

I have charged mine from dead flat with the Porsche tricle charger. Took about 10 days total for the charger light to go off indicating full charge. Not sure about the key question. Good luck!

I'm going to do unlock the car with the key tomorrow morning, pop the lid, attach the Ctek 3300 and report back.

So it's a beautiful morning, cool, sun is out and since it's a long weekend and traffic will be light, I said hmmm..maybe I should drive into work. Take the car cover off, admired the big butt that I hadn't seen in weeks, and proceeded to start car. Nothing... ..dead as a door nail...so on went the trickle charger. I had forgotten to put the charger on since our last fun-run... This thread will certainly be a reminder...

I bought my ctek 3300 from Interstate Batteries retail store in the Bay Area, but they didn't have the cigarette lighter adapter.
I can get them online, but does anyone know if any retail stores carry the adapter?
