Used Porsche in California
Here is a post from beautiful Crescent California. This fish-belly white Canadian is getting some sun on a California road trip. Over the next week my daughter and I are covering the entire state (sort of). She is looking for movie stars, I am looking for a 993. I am planning on stoping at TruSpeed, but are there any other quality used Porsche shops that I should check out?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I'd check with....
Smith Volvo in San Luis Obispo, CA. The owner Brent Smith always has a great collection of used Porsche cars for sale. His store also sells Porsche parts and does service....Brent Smith is very knowledgable about Porsche cars, Lotus cars too, He sells these as well.
Check out his used car selection on the Smith Volvo web site. No affiliationother than Brent is a Porsche Racing buddy.

Hit autotrader.com and search in CA.
Also craigslist.com in the major CA areas (bay area, LA, OC, SanDiego).
TruSpeed gets the cream of the crop in 993s...worth a stop for the drool-fest. They are good peeps from what I've heard. They do charge for their cream-of-the-crop, but what do you expect... If you are near them, also go check out European Collectibles (www.europeancollectables.com). Not really 993s, but tons of 356s worth seeing!

Welcome! I am from Canada but live here now - my house is too small but I don't have to shcvel snow anymore. There are some deals to be had, but not with the used car specialty dealers, which find pristine cards but charge top dollar too. You could check out http://www.chequeredflag.com/ and http://www.californiacars.com/ in and around LA.
But to search private cars for sale Use http://www.craiglook.com (to check craigslist over a 250 mile radius), http://www.cars.com, http://www.thesamba.com, http://www.oodle.com, and sometimes just plain google. Also autotrader is decent.
There are deals to be had, yesterday I was 3rd in line to get a 167-mile 1995 993 for 10k on Craigslist. It posted around 2pm, I called and offerred to arrive by evening but I was 3rd and too late, it sold for 12k cash. I know of several other rough / salvage / accident damage cars in the 16-19k range - sort of the opposite of the TruSpeed cars

Be careful with some of the dealers mentioned. I had a less than agreable experience with one of them once (it wasn't TruSpeed - they were great). It was a while ago and I won't go into it but suffice it to say a PPI, preferrably by a shop recommended here, is very important.
