Silver hood crest FS
Came on my duaghter's Box S.
I prefer the gold crest. I know these go for big bucks?
How about $175 smackers with gasket etc.

I think you're mistaken. The badge you posted looks like a homemade attempt (using a regular badge and then nickel plating, etc.). Just my opinion.
The silver version of a standard Porsche hood crest looks like a silver version of the standard Porsche hood crest...

Just looked at it again very closely. It's not home made. It's the real crest.

Yeah, the GB ended up at around $100 just less than a year ago. Somebody should do another one. Unfortunately the OEM gold one has increased by a lot, so the source for genuine silver ones is pricier now.
Start watching eBay for some $50 Chinese masterpieces. With 'real' part numbers on the back, too.

There appears to be two types of car badges out there, depending on one's perspective one might be valued higher than the other.
The badge that most purchased through the group buy is a true Cloisonné type which is an ancient technique for decorating metalwork objects, using vitreous enamel. The metal badge is fabricated with raised separation edges between colored fields. These edges remain visible in the finished piece, separating the different compartments of the enamel or inlays. Cloisonné enameled objects are filled in with enamel powder made into a paste, which is then fired in a kiln resulting in a hard glass like finish in the colored areas.
The other badge appears to have been finished similarly with a thinner enameled coating hence the "pebble" texture on the red sections of the crest popping through.
I've noticed this difference in quality especially with the Mercedes Benz emblems, early (pre-70's) cloisonné badges appearing much much deeper than the subsequent replacement badges.

If you look closely at the "so-called real deal" group buy badge pic you can clearly see the pebble finish showing through.
There is absolutely no difference in that badge vs. the one I just sold.
My pics are exterme close up's of much higher quality & therefore show every last little manufacturing imperfection even though trivial at best.

Fact is the prices on the OEM gold crest have jumped dramatically. Maybe it's become a supply issue from the vendor. I'm curious who supplies Porsche with them?
