Don't drive it! It's too perilous!

First off, I already have a 997S.

Second, though I haven't own a 993 yet, I don't think they are pieces of !@#. I have driven one or two and happen to love the way they drive. Are they as quick as my 997, no I can see how people argue the 993 is more fun to drive because it really is. Of course the 997 is an absolute blast to drive, but the 993 has a unique feel after owning a 997 for a while, I was able to feel even on a test drive.

So, DC is correct, there is a reason these 993s are so expensive.

Why? What could go wrong, it's a 911?

No but really, why? It's a good car, 40,000 miles, fresh service etc.

Looks like atcbi5 used to love his 993.....and dislike the newer models.

https://rennlist.com/forums/6893746-post19.html

I have had mine for sale, couple of offers but nothing I would take. Kind of on the fence on selling it. Honestly, not a finance thing just (wife) want something else. I have an RS America and LOVE IT even with no A/C and radio!! Would want an early 1969-72 car. Just love the classic look. Don't care about anything past 98 for sure, no matter how much better or faster just don't care. Don't get me wrong but if you were to show up to my home with a new Carrera, I would just say sweet. Then go back to doing homework with both my kids. Now, you show up with a 72, I stopping everything period!

Just being wise. I will always fall on the side of 'just drive the damned thing and stop worrying.'

He won't be back. Maybe he thought this was the 996 board.

I've subbed to SCM for years now. I think that the 993 will appreciate and the cab more than the coupe but not real soon now. That assumes we have any second tier cars appreciating and this wiill never be a first tier car - at least in my lifetime. First tier are rides like Benz SSK's, Jag D's, etc.

For a car to be collector grade it must:

1. Be highly thought of when new. This is why Edsels, although rare, aren't worth much today.
2. Be made in limited numbers. The 993 qualifies but there are still too many left.
3. Have a heritage of some sort. This is usually racing but it can be other heritage sort of items which give it status.
4. Ideally the specific car should have a documented heritage such as, "Race driver ABC, in the hotly contested CDE, race won beating the FGH team for the first time since 1923".
5. The above I've gleaned from the experts at SCM. I'll add that the car should look good too. Example - XKE.

I think the 993 solidly qualifies to collector but not quite right now.

Desirabilty: 1. 993RS, 2. TurboS, 3. Turbo, 4. 993S, 5. 993S4, 6. 993/2, 7. 993/4, 8. 993cab (unless you leave in CA in which case cab moves to top 4 places).
Long term value: all of them will go up in value; in europe any good condition 993 has stopped going down in value, and started going up, the Turbos have lead the way. I just sold my 993/4 for 2/3rd of what I paid 11 years ago!

Seriously? While you don't have navi, these are still fairly modern cars with all of the amenities you need. I drove from LA to Monterey and back, probably 1,900 miles over 4 days. I'm 6'3" and 220 and I totally loved it. No regrets. Even used cruise control. Got to drive Rt. 1 south through Carmel, Big Sur, San Simeon, oh...delicious piece of road. One of the best in the U.S. But I digress.

Ban the Troll. He went to right place for a rise and got it. While you may be able to find round headlights now, only one car has "993 looks."

Totally. If all you have to do is go the store and buy it, I really don't care. If you had to hunt for a year, get an out of town PPI, transport it, put on wheels, suspension and Fisters, or if you restored an old one, I'm impressed.

Interesting rank list, thanks! Where does a Targa fit in there? With a C2? or down with the cab?

Oops! forgot the targa, this was my "prefered list" of course, I have no clue what the wishes will be say 20 years from now. I would think, it will be closely matched to how scarce they are...(i.e looks good for the targa in 2030!).

How comfortable do you think it would be...blackonblack
I have the "comfort" seat option on my car, and it's very comfortable on long trips. I'm 6' 1" and 190 #, and my car has 17" wheels. In particular, the seat fits me like a glove.

Keep in mind, the comfort factor is subjective, and will depend on a number of factors, including the suspension set up.
