Porsche Greeting Protocol?
OK, when I owned a Porsche decades ago, the standard greeting was a flash of headlights, which would be acknowledged by the same.
Now I sometimes just might get a wave....or very often am completely ignored.
Since I've been out of the game for a while, someone please enlighten me on the current approach.

In my opinion, unfortunately, the Porsche has gone mainstream. It's just they are not so uncommon as they used to be. When I told my friends that I was looking for a Porsche, they all said, "yeah, they're nice cars, but there are too many on the road".

I usually wave. Sometimes I get a wave back, sometimes I don't.
I was thinking today, I see more Porsches than Miatas! Hardly a day goes by when I don't see at least one Porsche on my daily commute.

Depends on the model, and the surroundings for me.
In the city, I see a lot of other Porsche, and usually don't bother unless the other guy does it - then I repeat his (or her occasionally) format. Where I live (very rural) I rarely see any anyway, but usually do the lights thingy if I do. I should add that I always flash an older (993 and back) model regardless of the surroundings.
A few weeks ago, I saw a beautiful 964 on a relatively small back road, and almost froze in awe. Thought to wave at the last second - after he had. Actually, now that I think of it, I remember doing a "peace" sign...
Both headlight and wave get used in other scenarios too. Sometimes I temporarily forget what I'm driving. I have flashed a Porsche while driving a Jeep, a mini-van, and even a Chevy Impala as well. You can see that I am mentally challenged! I have also flashed a Jeep while in a Porsche. Go figure...
This question is kinda like the country wave (applied to any vehicle). Where I live, nearly everyone waves on small roads, but not on highways. Of course there are lots of in-betweens too. Fail to wave on a very small road and you come off as cold or self-absorbed. Wave on a busy road, and you feel like a dork: "wow, that guy needs some friends or something."
In the summer, on gravel roads, I always thought the country wave was a weird greeting, because it almost says "hey, howyadoin, better get on over there, oh, and here's some dust comin your way - hope you got your windows up..."
It gets really weird when the roads are buried in snow and few people are out - everything gets scaled up a notch or two depending on just how hard the road conditions are, and (correspondingly) how few people are out. You need both hands on the wheel at that point too!
It boils down to frequency I guess. Its never a mistake to do the "confident male" head-nod though. Because its always a cool gesture. It says "I'm cool, and so are you, pal." If traffic's too busy it goes unnoticed, or people could just think "maybe that guy just coughed or something," which is also a cool, male thing to do periodically anyway...
Oh, and everyone nods from a tractor, and everyone waves to them regardless of the road size. At least I think their waving...

I get more wave's now from the older 911's but not from the new ones. I don't think they know what another porsche looks like, even their own.
I swear my neighbor does not know I drive a 911 even though he has a brand new turbo in his garage.

Cayenne's - Rarely even notice me. 911's - Mostly (depends on type of driver); Boxters - 50%; Caymans - yes; Panamera's - Not enough data.
I flash if appropriate. Wave on smaller roads and slower traffic. However, the other day I flashed another 911 and I swear not 5 cars behind him was a PO....I was thinking, "Great, I'll get pulled over for warning drivers." That is typically why I only blink one time...not to confuse it with the "flashing - warning of a speed trap".
I also want to add...if you are the smoking hot blond traveling on I-285 in Atlanta in the nice black 997...PLEASE DRIVE, stay in your lane and stop fiddling with your phone!
I thought I'd pull up to a fellow Porsche-o-file, have a nice wave and cruise down the Interstate together...no way....she didn't even see me and barely stayed in her lane.

Around here I wave to 993's and older no mater what conditions all the time. Sometimes to 996, 997's, 944's, 968. depends on the other driver. Never to boxers, cayman, cayenne or other new model. It's all just a blur of styling bling.

Agree! 993's and older...guaranteed wave. 996's and newer (and non-Carrera's) - too many different types of drivers. Poser's, Soccer Mom's and people that don't even know what a spark plug is.
