New Fiat store going in to downtown LA in Figueroa across from the Porsche store. The logo was uncovered on Wednesday.

Spied this little gem at one of the street parties during the Montreal F1 weekend.

I have a Fiat 500 addiction...

I imported the first white 500L from Italy a few years ago and just purchased the other white one (1967 500R) and the blue one (1964 500D) during my trip to Italy last week. I also picked up a really nice one owner 1961 Fiat Multipla, but I don't have any decent pictures of it. I will definitely buy a new 500 once they release the Abarth version here.

JD, how difficult/expensive is it to import a 25+ year old car? I understand emissions and safety are not considered by Feds, but what is actually involved?

I have a couple of ideas having to do with older European cars...

Its very easy in Florida. Once the vehicle clears customs (usually through an agent) you make an appointment with the local DMV inspection office and they inspect it to verify the VIN. Once they make sure that all matches they send you to the regular DMV office with the clearance to register it. We have no state inspection to worry about here so that's it.

JD, any ballpark on shipping costs and agent costs?

I don;t think that the cars I'm thinking about would have VINs. But I can discuss that with local RMV, no problem. I'm more curious about logistics and costs of actually getting the car here.

Where are the cars coming from? They will need to have some sort of identification number to be registered at some point whether its as a conventional car or a home built. Costs vary depending on how you ship, purchase price etc. I think I paid about $800.00 plus shipping in fees when I brought in the first 500. This time I'm going to fill up a 40 foot container with as much stuff as I can fit in order to offset the shipping costs. I picked up a few Vespas as well.
