For me, the internet has been a real boon (Thanks, Al Gore!). Back in '87, I founded the M Register for the big 6 cyl. M cars and we had to do everything by "snail mail". Yes, great associations but so slow and drawn out. Now that I've come to my senses and reverted back to my roots with Porsches, the 993 Forum on RENNLIST has become an integral part of my life. While it's not as much fun as driving and working on the cars, it comes real close. The day would really be dull without logging on with you all. It's great to associate with group of people all over the World who have the best of taste when it comes to their cars (and other things as well).

We have the same amount of passion in the UK for the 993.
An example would be a Porsche Centre inspection day, which is happening this Saturday. There were 20 places available for a free 111 point check, with each owner shadowing the Porsche Technician as they go over their car for them.
Check out the spread of cars on the day:
20 Confirmed Attendees
1. TBrown - 996 C2 - 1998
2. cambjones - 993 C4 - 1997
3. Stocksie - 993 C2S - 1997
4. Dom B - 993 C4S - 1996
5. Yabadoouk - 993 C2 - 1994
6. Barty964rst - 993 RS - 1996
7. Sram - 993 C2 - 1995
8. Zeek - 996 C4 - 1999
9. 917k - 964 C4 - 1990
10. Kenloen - 964 C2 - 1991
11. TheCock - 993 C2S - 1996
12. Ekona - 997 C2S - 2008
13. Infrasilver - 996 Targa - 2001
14. njm500 - 997 C4S Cab 2007
15. Simon W - 993 C2S 1997
16. David Knight - 964 C2 1991
17. LK993 - 993C2S 1997
18. Vic - 964 C2 1990
19. tmilligan - 993 4S - 1996
20. cyruspower - 993 C2 - 1996
That's 11 993s out of 20 cars! Just shows you the passion, care and attention 993 owners have for their cars.
Will post photos of the day on here to show you guys plenty of UK 993 action.
We also have a big meeting on the 10th April where, as of today, we have 15 out of 31 cars being 993s!

Ken,
i agree about missing the real world hanging out. I used to spend a bunch of time over at ViperBob's house in Los Altos Hills on weekends with an assortment of our crowd. BBQ's and drives were regular occurences. Now it is a big deal to try to get a few guys together for a Sunday drive
Even the New Years Day drive was taken over by the GGR's and became an old guy fest barely breaking any speed limits!

Would love to get back to the good ol' days where there was a watering hole (when I was too young to legally be IN a bar, but no one really cared as I wasn't there to drink) on the Xth "Wednesday" of the month. Even if there were only 4-5 guys talking 356s (this WAS the early '80s), I'd learn something.

I love this place. Many, many good people I've gotten to know over the years - been around since the mid-90's when this was an email digest I'd read batch mode each day.
Best,
Matt

Ken,
Now that the driving season is beginning, maybe we should try a once a month drive on a set weekend day like the nth Sat or Sun of each month. We can also try a biweekly evening meet at a Peets/Starbucks like we used to do as well.

I've said it a couple times already in the 964 forum, but I'm sure it applies to many in the 993 forum as well...
I wouldn't be able to own my car (or any Porsche) without forums like this!
I wouldn't have known what to look for in a car, how to work on, or even have anyone to share all the wonderful experiences I'd had since owning the car...actually my wife thanks you all as she doesn't have to hear about all the random questions/experiences I have with the car...I can share it here instead.
Thanks Rennlist!
