Default 8 way seats...only working 4 ways?

Anyone have any suggestions or experience with this problem?

The passenger's side seat - it has 2 (typically 4 way) buttons to move the seat. The there are two arrows on them that point up and down on each button. Those directions actually work on the buttons, but the front and back directions don't.

It just happened all of a sudden, but I'm confused because some of the power works and some doesn't.

Help!

Check the fuses up front in the box (thought not sure why only parts of the power would work) and check the connections under the seat.

It is fuses 4 & 6 IIRC - 30 amp. But check p-car online and look for the switch rebuild DIY for more info. I wanna say that power just flows down the connector to all the pins.

Default May be the cable

It may be the cable from the motor to the seat/track. The end(s) usually strip-out if the seat is stuck at the fore- or aft-most position. Cable is $60 and a minor PITA to replace. Look under thr seat on the side closeest to the door and determine if the cable from the motor in front center is securely seated in the front at the motor and the rear at the track.

My guess is that switch might be bad. But let's troubleshoot one things at a time. How many arrows are on each switch? 4? How many switches per seat? 2? If so, are both switches behaving the same way?

+1 on the cables. If you hear the initial engagement of the motor then nothing else, it could very well be the cables.. Almost like a silent click then no movement...

Sit on your seat and rock up and down backwards and forwards whilst pressing the button. They tend to stick at their extremity of adjustment. My car was like that a year ago when I bought it and has been fine since. Quite a common problem.

If you need the cable shafts try dC Automotive - 235mm (front/rear) are $20 each. They also have the 265mm shafts avaialble. I picked up some seats with more power adjustments for the 96 and the seller failed to mention that one of the adjuster shafts on hte passenger seat was stripped, sigh. ONly problem was that I had to order more stuff to get my order to $75. As you can imagine, it was not hard to do, LOL.

The switches have a tendency to fail (these cars are over 15 years old!) with age...when the switches on my white cab went, once I found out what Porsche sold new switches for, I cannibalized the switches from a damaged pair of seats that were laying around.

Mine had similar issues. No noises at all when I used some of the switches. I followed the DIY for cleaning the switches and now the seat works properly.

Mine failed on the passenger side. Some of them. It also has heated seats and I haven't tried those yet. Too hot already in Florida. But I do want them to work. Is That a switch failure to probably if the heating doesn't work ?
