$375K - $400K with options. That's Carrera GT territory...choice is simple.

The guy with the LFA probably has a Carrera GT as well if you have that type of cash.

I've always hated this line.

A lexus is not inherently inferior to a bentley, porsche, ferrari or whatever.

True - but it has no racing heritage. No "tested at the track" lineage. Toyota does - so I suppose you could infer that Lexus does by default. But the lexus name stands for high quality and luxury. Not speed, or racing, or handling.

So at the end of the day you have a car thats known for luxury, and costs a mint, being beaten by a 911GT2.

I saw one up close at a car show, but it is this latter point that gets me. Indeed, pretty nice looking, but a few of the obvious visual cues smacked of "boyz-going-fastnfurious" stylizing IMHO. Like so many of the Japanese body designs, I do not think that look will age well (unfortunately, given some of their excellent engineering executions). Contrast the clean, fluid lines of a 240Z up to any-gen NSX and this LFA seems "gimmicky" to me. And it's not like Lexus is incapable: was it not their IS300 (and later variant) that rock the race circuits?

I have to agree with Quadcammer (WTF? Has hell frozen over? ); who cares that the LFA is a Lexus? Although I concur that Lexus (I'm safely guessing that Toyota's race engineers helped tweak this car) doesn't have any racing heritage and that a competition pedigree can most certainly improve the breed, if the car performs, the label is irrelevant to me. I can see how this car may be too gobot-ish for most of us here but think there is a lot to like about the car, at least from the very little I know about it. Anyway, I think the Lexus brand is fine. What's everyone comparing the LFA to? If it's a Lamborghini, hell, that discofried brand has almost no racing history. Bentley? What have you done for me lately (as in beyond the series of wins in the '20's and, no, the sublimely gorgeous Speed 8 doesn't count)?

That said, I wouldn't take the LFA over a GT3/GT3RS/GT2. No way. Porsche's extensive competition experience has meant real technology and engineering trickle down that has been in effect for over half a century.

Here's a thought.....build a performance coupe/sports car for about $190,000 less that normal enthusiasts can afford.

Isn't it true that you can only lease these, not buy them outright?

TORRANCE, California — The 2012 Lexus LFA will carry a suggested retail price of $375,000, parent Toyota announced, but U.S. customers still won't be able to buy one. The new supercar will be available in the States only with a two-year lease, the company confirmed.

A Lexus spokesman in November said only 150 LFAs will be coming to the U.S., out of a total global production run of 500 cars.

The company said production in Japan will begin in December, and all cars will be hand-built to customers' personal specs.

Only three configurations will be available, and all three come with a choice of leather or Alcantara upholstery. Configuration 2 adds a navigation system and Mark Levinson surround-sound audio system. Configuration 3 adds the Lexus Enform/Safety Connect communications system.

Other choices include 30 exterior and 12 interior colors, plus six brake-caliper colors. For more information, check out the official LFA Web site.

Last season Lexus introduced the LFA @MMC with Scott Pruet driving some hot laps etc.
We then had a chance to drive.

I was with Scott-the car is a true missle,sounds unreal & handles on rails.
Scott was reaching ~175 mph at the end of the back straight with a passenger.

I have been in a lot of very serious race cars at MMC and can say with confidence not to many could keep up with the LFA with Scott piloting.

I liked the car but it's not worth the price.
