Why do 993's cost so much?

One is not a troll because they disagree with your opinion regardless of how passionately held. Love your car and accept that not everyone feels the same way about it as you do. Ascribing denigrating names to those you wish to marginalize doesn't reflect any positive character traits (i.e. juvenile).
Truth be told, some here DO go overboard when they drink the 993 Kool-Aid, and I, for one, am happy to see Quad remove Superman's cape when the need arises.
Quad, you and your sometimes pain the *** POV are always welcome here. Don't let the bastards grind you down.

The 996 dash onwards, 1/2 gauge overlapping dials - just glance and yer done, in the name of ergonomics ?
Yep, as much as the air cooled body, lurv "the classic 911 dash" that ended with the 993. Adds to the driving experience to twist your neck back and forth and gaze across all those big round dials to absorb all the information .....

Yeah, although Quad can be a little acerbic at times, and he often plays the role of contrarian on the board, most of his views are not without merit. Also, he knows more about these cars than many who are maligning him here.

As to this koolaid crap, I've yet to see anyone here who said the 993 is the best car ever. It is being compared to the 996 specifically. And surprise, surprise, on a 993 board, when the question is asked, most prefer it over a 996.
I've no malice, just pity.

Actually it was Quad who maligned me with the comments about naming cars or using the terms passion, soul, etc as being creepy- so let's give credit where due, okay?

Whether people say it on here or not, you get the strong sense many feel it. Which is fine. But the comments about how people couldn't believe 996 owners are passionate or that the cars are desireable are silly. But all objective measures, the 996 is a better car than a 993. I get that there are intangibles about the 993 that are desireable, but why not just stick with saying that both are fantastic cars, but i prefer x.
Please don't waste your pity on me..I don't require it. I enjoy my car and my life just fine without turning cars into animate objects.

What I don't get is why some people get upset by or even care about other people's opinons/likes/dislikes.

I know you were being a little sarcastic, however, I am on my 3rd Porsche, and all have been great and dependable. But I don't believe any car maker compares in the quality and dependability department to Toyota or other Japanese manufacturers. If going from point A to B is all that matters to you Japanese cars do it the best. If going from point A to B and enjoying it at the same time is what matters to you then a Porsche fits the bill (or insert any fun car). As you might tell I have Toyota and Porsches and both are great at what they are intended to do.

Jeez, you guys sure know how to make a mountain out of a mole hill. This whole thread rings of the "My Dad can beat up your Dad" arguement a couple of kids might have. I have a good friend who loves to play golf but couldn't care less about cars. I have fun with cars but don't play golf. We both recognize what we enjoy and pursue it as part of enjoying life's happiness without thinking ill of the other. It's OK to have different tastes and interests. It would be a boring world if we didn't. Let's move on to more important topics like undertrays and oil.
