You are going to have more of a problem than I did on my '95. I haven't looked at the wiring for any other years but the '95s, the relay will probably work ok for your car too, but, you do need a chip or a reflash depending on the DME design

Thanks Bill. I'm going to put the question to fvd, as one of the ecu's I got with the car was done by them under Andial's direction. They just posted on the TT board about their business and the fact they can customize ecu's for things like LWF's, cams etc. So I thought I'd begin there. Unfortunately the BIG ecu was made by Thielert, who's no longer in business ... but the ecu still works really well.

There's a really good chance that any of those ECUs would lack the immobilizer input, the relay is a $20 part, try it.

I have a late 95 with immobile and this is one of the very few things I don't like about the car. I asked my mechanic and Steve Weiner and they said it was immensely difficult to eliminate. Were they wrong???

So, as it is, you still have remote unlock, but if it fails, you can unlock the door with your key, crank it up and drive away?

Don't forget that you can install a cheap aftermarket remote lock/unlock if Bill's mod eliminates that part of immobilizer circuitry.

I did a DIY some time ago if info is needed (god, it's been 7 years).

Do you think this will work on any OBD1, or is it chip specific? My chip is a GIAC, and I'd love to kill the immobilizer.

I don't understandthe hatred of the immobilizer. If you unlock the car with the remote, it starts just like any other car. What am I missing?
