hi folks, i am embarking on removing my rear suspension cage including the side sections primarily to replace the subframe bushes and also maybe a few of the arms and give everything a good grit blast

everything is a bit heavy there so i wanted to remove the upright + brake disc first and was wondering whether to disconnect the drive shaft at the upright or at the gearbox ? which is easier to do and how easy overall is it ? Presumably at the gearbox end you just have 6 large cap heads to remove ?

Congratulations on having the car in such a great conditition (I did some work on mine today and all the wheel arches plastic covers are completely covered in dirt... need to find some time to clean them!).

Sorry for the OT but are those spring+dampers KW or Bilstein?
I remember discussing with you about KW around a couple of years ago but looking at the pics I wonder if you have switched to Bilstein.

Hi naut, yes i switched to PSS10 late last year.

The list of to do this time is as follows:




1. remove rust and repaint/refurb side supports and chassis sides
2. cavity protect and refurb bumper supports and chassis legs
3. fit cat bypass pipes
4. fit new PU and side support heatshields
5. fit RS engine carrier
6. replace chain cover gaskets and new screws
7. fit RS pulley setup
8. AC delete - remove compressor, evaporator and drier
9. fit smaller lighter compressor support bracket
10. remove engine fan and surround and refurb/polish/paint
11. fit RS style single blower tube and remove heater blower assembly
12. replace std. airbox with cone filter
13. blast and powder coat Alarm bracket, bumper impact brackets, rear engine tray, lower heater tubes and other sundry brackets
14. refurb heater tube
15. fit RS steering wheel
15. clean and detail rear engine bay area with engine lowered
16. fit new exhaust tips
17. grit blast rear suspension side sections and all arms
18. fit RS rear A arms and fit RS kinematic toe arms
19. rebush rear Camber arms with Elephant sport bushes
20. fit RS monoball top mounts F&R
21. fix broken eyelet in rear PU
22. fit Rennline solid rear subframe bushes


If im feeling brave I might even refurb and paint the Intake manifold as well.


I would be very grateful for any advice about coating the suspension members after they have been blasted .. is there something that might protect them but something invisible. A wax coating of some sort perhaps ?

Wow, that is an impressive array of removed parts! Good luck on this.

This reminds me of when I took my 911 engine apart-it was unbelievable how much room all of the parts took up.

Mate - amongst all those parts - I see a steering wheel. What's going on mate?
I bet everyone who walks by and sees that says you are nuts.
The outside of my garage looked just like that when I dropped my engine.

17. grit blast rear suspension side sections and all arms
18. fit RS rear A arms and fit RS kinematic toe arms
19. rebush rear Camber arms with Elephant sport bushes

As I plan to do the same thing! Have you already ordered the rear RS A/KT arms? What are the Part number's and where did you get them?? I've already ordered all the rear ERP bushes.

My car will be in the UK (Wimbledon) next weekend -perhaps we should hook-up and have a chat??

hi alex, yes stop over it you like ... i obviously cant get very far in the 993 !

I am not so certain about the camber arms but will be getting the RS arms from GTone. I could rebush the originals but doing it the expensive way means I have the RS cache, I have new ball joints all round and also I have a used arm to sell on ebay.
