I feel lucky just to have been able to own a Porsche. But this one is special to me. Also, when we were at RSR IV, I only spotted 2 others. Out of ~ 800 Porsches. Nice.

Sorry to hear you've been scared away from Targas.
The majority of experiences here are positive. Not to mention the unparalleled resources and expert advice.

Personally, I can't imagine selling the bride's 97 Targa. Fantastic driving experience, unlike anything else IMHO.
Plus hers is an Exclusive Programme car, exterior paint to sample, custom interior to sample...PCNA could barely fit all the options on the CoA.

At 25K miles, it is just about broken in. A minor wind noise from the driver's side, but nothing that really bothers me.

Make sure to keep that wind noise under control when she's riding with you!

Mine has been fine for the entire 2 months I've owned. Surely that's a good data point?

Sounds like a used/proven model with some time behind her might be the way to go since you would pretty well know what you have by then. Thanks for all the comments/advice.

Default 993 targa - Way more positives than negatives

Twelve years and 32,000 miles (not enough!) in my ownership.

One problem with the roof, starting about two weeks ago when some of the trim material on the inside of one of the side trim rails came unglued. It caught in the slider and jammed the roof a bit, then the roof continued to close. The timing is slightly off now, I've adjusted it once (thanks Mike!!!) but need to do so again.

This is a MY1996.

There have always been a few rattles and some wind noise, but I've learned to live with it, and they are inaudible when the top is open. Which it is, most of the time I'm driving the car.

Suggest all 993 targa owners inspect the roof rail interior trim panels periodically, with the roof open. Any loose trim material (which may or may not be leather) should be glued back in place immediately.

Tim

Smile Almost 15 years now.

Sale pending, see Silver993Targa. '97 Targa, in the RL classifieds. That's my new "handle", since I gave up trying to renew my membership and just launched a new one, this week. Any way..... never had any issues with mine. I'll miss it, But life goes on.
