Just putting this out here as a suggestion....We could meet at the usual Home Depot at the northern end of GA 400 (Intersection of GA 400 and GA 60 about 5 miles south of Dahlonega) around 9:00 AM on Saturday, December 31.
That would give us time to do some driving, maybe have lunch and a beer, and still leave time for everyone to make it home for evening festivities.
This routine has worked well for a couple of years now, but if others have a better start point, I'm fine with it.
As Dave said, anyone who wants to come along is welcome.

All systems go as far as I know. Weather can be a bit mercurial, so we're keeping our eyes on that.
I just changed rotors and pads today, and with the new motor mounts I did a few weeks ago, the car is ready to go!

Weather sites all indicate sunny and highs in the 50's Wednesday through Saturday, with rain coming back in on Sunday....We'll know for sure on Thursday night what Saturday will be like....Beyond that, it's just a WAG.

Still up in the air here as snow fell in the higher elevations last night. I can see it from my window. Any idea if the GA DOT put out the 'salt/sand mix' on the mountain roads??

IMPORTANT: Updated Road Conditions as of Noon 12/28/2011
Just to be sure, I took a drive to check some of the local roads. GDOT did put sand/gravel on some bridges and north-facing road surfaces on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. The locations are random and not widespread, apparently based on wet road conditions and sub-freezing temperatures after midnight. Most, but certainly not all of the sand/gravel is out of the travel lanes as of noon today. Assuming no additional precip, the roads should be fine on Saturday. I just want everyone to be fully informed.

Unless someone else has a better idea, let's meet between 9:00 and 9:30 Saturday in the parking lot of the Dahlonega Home Depot located at the intersection of GA400 N and GA60 N (See Jim's map in Post #15 above). This start point has worked well in the past.

Bad News
Apparently, the guy I spoke with at the store on Blood Mountain was either a liar or an idiot.
There was enough snow on Blood Mountain and Richard Russell Scenic Parkway that GDOT scraped and salted the roads and closed Richard Russell, which remains closed until the weather warms. I'm going to be at the Dahlonega Home Depot at 9:00->9:30 on Saturday and see who shows.
Sorry for the bad info earlier.

Isn't it supposed to be fairly warm sat-sun? If so, perhaps we give our cars baths the next day to get the salt off, and all is well.
After a long spell driving Truckasaurus due to inclement weather, I've been driving the p-car these past few days, and it's been a glorious experience. Between the redone motor mounts, rotors, and pads, the car is tight, tight, tight!
I'll be there fer shure...

Guys, I'm playing it by ear...I have some company coming that day but don't know for sure at what time they are arriving. I will know more tonight. I'm hoping to making it!
Ed, did you change the mounts yourself? Which ones did you go for? Stock, RS? It's next on my list.
