Higher Mileage - what's a fair price?
Hi Rennlisters -
I'm looking at this 96 C4S advertised at Smith Volvo in California. The 911 has 85k miles and has been a 5 owner car (ran the Carfax already).
http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...aff=national#0
As I'm awaiting information on this car as to whether it comes with past service records etc. what would a car such as this sell for? What's a fair price if the car checks out with no leaks etc. To me $38k is strong considering the mileage and other C4S's out there with less mileage in the 40's.
Opinions?

that dealership has been complimented on here before as having good cars.
It looks clean, low optioned, can't tell if it's at stock ride height or not. Service records would be important naturally, you would be doing a 90K service immediately.
If stock suspension is still there, add $$ for that, and clutch condition-history to consider also.
Not my fav color combo, but common to have the Classic grey with the AR.
Listed at a reasonable price considering it's at a dealer...if everything mechanically checks out, and you get some records...it would be a very nice car at $35-36K.
Of course accident/paint history and any mechanical needs should reduce that, but still a solid car for that money.
Good luck!

Magdaddy is spot on with that post. Not really thrilled about 5 prior owners though. That would be my only pause. How come no one loved this car and kept it for awhile??

my thoughts exactly...the mileage scares me a bit but I do want an Arena Red C4S. If a PPI shows that the car has been well cared for and its presently in great shape then a deal might be had.
My ex-NSX was a 4 owner car and it was mint so the number of owners isn't a true reflection of a cars condition although it would hint at wear and tear.

Arena Red sought...where to look?
I'm now actively looking for a widebody Arena Red 993. I'm open to either Carrera S or C4S (preferred) and happy with mileage over 50k and any interior color.
I'm looking at the following sources:
1. Rennlist Classifieds
2. 6speedonline
3. Autotrader
4. Cars.com
5. Sloan Cars
6. Wilhoit
7. Holt Motorsports
8. Truspeed
9. Ebay
and there was another 993 dealer that I believe was a mom and pop shop in the country and only dealt with 993's. Anyone know the name of that dealer? From past recollection it appeared to be an acreage...
Thanks!

Add Craigslist and if you're a member, PCA.org.
Having owned an Arena Red 993, they are a bit more difficult to sell than the classic colors; use that to your advantage when negotiating price.

Another thing to mention; that AR C4S in California has been on sale for over a
year..I've seen it go from 43K, 41K, 40K, to 37,9....I bet you could
squeeze a pretty good deal if they're ready to move it.

Yes, we'll see what this dealership comes back with. The service history will be key however I expect that it will not have a full history.

_boman I tried to get the Arena Red in Ontario but they won't budge under $50k Cdn and then all of the taxes above and beyond...expensive.

Do not overate Carfax. There are enthusiasts that do the basic maintenance -> not in carfax. It is all about documentation and condition of the car. Same applies to repainting. Your criteria are already narrow with model and color that I would consider a well repaired car, too.

Don't forget www.hemmings.com just in case. I know Holt advertises a lot in there plus others.

The one on ebay's was from a guy around here(NC),and the AR in cal. should be able to get picked up for mid thirties as others said.I've talked to that dealer before and it seems like a descent c4s ,plus they sounded pretty negotiable...hit em low, worst they can say is no.They HAVE had it for a looooooong time!
