What do you think about the price of this car?
Black on tan 96 C2 cpe, 88K miles, 2 owners, 18' turbo twists, M030 suspension, all records since new. don't know about the options, but I think it has the upgraded stereo (10 speaker?).
Owner said the front fender got scraped so instead of repairing it he had a new fendere put on and the entire front end resprayed. He says the interior and exterior are in excellent condition and there are no oil leaks (he had the lower valve cover gasket replace last year). He said he has not had any electrical problems, no check engine lights, or failed smog tests.
It sounds like it is very clean and well taken care of. He is asking $35,000. Not knowing 993s very well, I'm wondering what you guys think of the price. My initial feeling is that with the higher miles, it would be a good deal closer to $30k. Am I in the ballpark?

need more information-especialy options and details on maintenance records.
if still on stock suspension, M030 or not...you'll need new dampers all around
ever had a clutch installed?
your coming up on a 90K service too
front control arm bushings will be shot
motor mounts will need replacing probably too.
Aftermarket stereo is a negitive if ANYTHING was modified/cut to install.
Are you able to do any work on it yourself?
IMHO, unless this is a highly optioned car-sport seats, alu options everywhere, needing what it will...it's a very low $30's car.

I'd follow Magdaddy's suit with the low $30k region on price. Not having all the details, as a frame work I would take any purchase development one step at a time. You don't want to buy a pig in a poke ...
An documented, unmolested car would lead this buyer onto the next step. What IS the car beyond its make, model, year. The build options data is on a 5"x5" white sticker on the underside of the front hood or the VIN would provide this also. Up coming required maintenence/cost is an expensive big unknown which only a really good PPI can assist you with. Good luck.
PS. Needed maintenence on a car is often a trigger to sell. A good PPI is your guide here...

I think that price is quite a reach. A lot depends on the body damage -- I'm skeptical it was a "scrape" if it warranted new fender. I'm not afraid of high miles, but 35k is the price for a low miles c2. The wheels are cheap to find and the springs, as said above, are meaningless without new shocks at this point. For 35k you could get my cab with LWF, new pistons/cylinders and valve guides, full suspension, and a host of other little goodies, all with less than 60k on the clock. That car is worth high 20s to me...

+1. I think a well sorted version (documented) version of this car is already south of $35k. If shocks, mounts, brakes, and 90k service are needed, subtract from there.
PPI will help you here for sure.

I think $30,000 is plenty for this car provided it has a clean title and clear Carfax. If something shows up on either, even lower than $30,000 would be in order because when it comes time to sell the car yourself one day, you will be dealing with the same negatives along with 6 figure mileage.

Thanks for the help so far. Keep it coming. I did get some clarifications from an email with the owner. He changed out the suspension in 04 when he bought it. He said it is a Bilstein coilover adjustable suspension that has been corner balanced (not sure exactly what corner balance means). Clutch was done at 65K so only about 23K miles on it.
He said the "scrape" on the fender came from a motorcycle. He took it to 2 of the "top Porsche body shops" in Los Angeles and had it done by the shop that agreed to replace the fender. Sounded like the other shop wanted to just repair with body filler.
One other plus is it comes with the original 17' cup II wheels with Michelin pilot sport ribs that are almost new. I don't know how much I could sell these for.
Anyone have a guess how much a 90K service is going to cost?

+1 to all of the above ^
Here's an idea. Inlist a local Rennlist 993 owner to look at the car. Many 993 owners on this forum know their cars well and or local professionals who do. Regardless, a Pre Purchase Inspection (PPI) by a qualified 993 wrench is a must. As a next step encourage the seller to perform a PPI. Come clean with your location and I'm sure a Rennlister can provide an agreeable quality wrench. You must KNOW this car before you buy. You may have come across a nice unmolested 993... that's a winner!
The 993 is a desirable sports car to own and with a little focused care very reliable. Good luck.

A little reference -- I just bought my c4s. It has 87k. New valve guides at 40k. New clutch and LWF at 78k. Full Koni suspension (equivalent of pss9). Many options. Many new and expensive parts (4wd differential, for instance) with a binder full of receipts. Only thing missing, really, as far as I was concerned, was sport seats. It had been in a scrape, too, and had paint work done on the rear fender but you couldn't tell (paint measured slightly thick). Seller was asking 42k. I paid less than 2k more than what your seller is asking for a c2...

IMHO, I always use $30K for a 50K mile car as a benchmark because I've seen so many sell for that +/- $2K in the last 3 years. 993's take a big value hit at 80K miles and without a top end rebuild, they are $25K -$28K cars depending on options, condition and color (aluminum look, sport seats, OBC, hi-fi sound, twists, Turq/Riv Blue, etc.) I'd keep looking and get a lower mile car for the same money that has some expensive mod's done to it so you don't have to pay for them ...

I friend of mine just sold his '97 C4 with 33k mi, for $35k. It had some oil seepage, tires and was throwing misfire codes indicating possile dmf failure. Otherwise a pristine car. This car would be a $30k car imho.

If it helps - my total spend on my 1995 between 90K - 104K miles has been $1300 - Oil & A-Arms. That's it. Never had a top-end either and the car runs like a top burns essentially no oil. The only exception is that the A/C evaporator developed a leak last year and I've not had time yet to tackle that project.

+1 So true ^
The now famous last words from Bruce Anderson a foremost 911 authority. "buy the 911 which is in the best condition" ...
Or spend the $5k on a red head hooker and an eightball for the weekend .... I'm just saying.
What???? is this the '80s? LoL.
