Default 95 steering rack support for 18" wheels

What is the story behind the steering rack support bracket offered for 1995 cars with 18" wheels. Is the rack not strong enough to support larger wheels and do the later cars all have this support or do they have a different rack?
I am running 18" wheels and track my car is this support a must have?
Thanks,
Ben

I think this just reinforces where the rack mounts to the chassis. If you are on the track, you may want to consider putting it on. If I remember correctly, it is. It too expensive and fairly easy to install.

I think the wheels have to much weight & grip. It can move the rack around, or tear the mounts out. The bracket just ties in both mounts & uses longer bolts. It's cheap, & takes 15min to install, most of that is lifting up the car.

I think any car running "R" tires should have the brace.

Hey Ben, lots of threads on here regarding this issue. I was so confused after reading if the VIN falls after certain numbers that you need to have a brace. I just went ahead and added the brace myself. Pretty cheap and easy DIY.

It's like $30 and 15 minutes. A steering rack is like $1000 and a couple of hours.

Ok since I am installing walrod bushings and pss10s next week I will throw in the steering brace as well. It looks like I will be calling my local Porsche dealer tomorrow.
Thanks for the advice.

You may want to try sunset porsche for all of your porsche parts. They are much cheaper then the local stealers..

we stock the parts at the shop but it isn't so cheap any more... But still relatively cheap, considering what Porsche gets for some stuff

Hmm.. It's only for 95 cars with VINs over 99 7 SS 323614 and all 96's except Targa's.

So my 99 4 ss 321917 is SOL as it relates to 18"? Anyone know of another potential fix if I wanted to move up in wheel size?

Sunset is great but I am willing to pay a little more to have the part quicker. I am on the east coast and have bought a couple items from sunset. The support is about $60 so on a small part like that after shipping it would most likely be a wash besides my local dealer cuts me a break.

Nobody in the country has the part!
If anyone has a lead please let me know apparently
the part is on backorder and not in stock at any Porsche dealer in the country
this part is also the steering support seen on the 993 turbo.
part#99334713102
Thanks
Ben

I just googled it and the first place that comes up says it ships in 1-3 days...If I were you, I'd order it and then put it on whenever it gets here. It's not an emergency, and all you need to remove to install it is the front undertray and 2 bolts.
