I had a 1995 C2 back in like 1999...I think I sold it in 2001 or '02 for around $38K. It had 40K-50K miles...the market has come down a little from there but not too much.
The market has already started to turn around for lower mileage, no story 993's in the past 18 months or so. The combination of reduced supply (due to substantial exports, wrecks/conversions and driving/normal usage), increased demand (last year of air cooled model, low interest rates so no good alternative investment and overall positive reviews in the enthusiast community) and an improving economy (more disposable income, higher confidence level). It's not "if" but "when" a lower mileage NB coupe will regularly command at least $40k and an "S" at least 25% above that. The 993TT have increased at least 15% in the past year or two.

My first Porsche purchase was an 89 speedster with 26k miles in 2002. Paid $39,000 from a Porsche dealer. Held it 2+ years, sold it for $42,000 and thought I was a genius. Same car today is $65,000

[QUOTE=deadhead1960;9168522]I did not know PCA offers this "service." I hope you didn't have to pay for it. With a $23,000 spread between "high and low," I could have told you that...for free

No, it is part of the annual membership. It is mostly for valuation for insurance purposes, but it looks at all data points (sold vehicles) of your particular model in the past 12 months or so. The $23,000 spread is due to not knowing the particulars of the individual car. Condition & options play a huge part in the value! Not to mention it seems to be a more trusted/reliable source than asking someone what they paid for their own car....in which you rarely get a non inflated value??

My guess is that the values of the "S" body cars will increase at the same rate that the Turbo cars have in recent years. I doubt the market will go down any lower than it is now.

Ave price is 6k higher than my valuation from about 2 years ago, same year and model. This is not the bottom, it's going up. Look at Truspeed listings and see how many 993's they have? When I was looking they had plenty to choose from.

In the 3-4 months I had been looking I noticed that C4S's were rare and when in good shape with FSH, no accidents, etc held their asking price. I didn't see many reduced in price and I can only presume sold when they disappeared from autotrader or cars.com listings.

I remember two years ago when Truspeed, Victory and others had alot of stock and nowadays there just doesn't seem as much. Mind you mine is on its way to Dubai so heck knows how many have also gone abroad or to Canada. This should push S and C4S prices up.

mine sure hasn't.

If you're concerned with value, don't buy a mid mile car because after you drive it quite a bit, it won't be worth as much as the coins under your couch cushions.

I know this is a stupid question, and no, I don't view my cars as investments, just things to own and drive and enjoy, but...

which do you see depreciating or appreciating further, a 993 C4S or a 996 GT3? Both seem to me to have hit bottom and begun a bounce up.

Why do I ask? I am looking at GT3s again (been through this several times, but I am now moderately motivated), and am contemplating an offer on a GT3 and therefore the necessary ask for my car.

Thanks.

I would imagine the more complete or original the car remains, the more it will be worth in the future irregardless of the mileage if you consider collectors in the future willing to pay for cars for restorations will pay more for a car that they will not have to source parts to complete. So, save all of the original non-maintenance parts taken off from reversible mods while enjoying the car and most importantly, drive it.

I wish I knew. All I can say is that it appears 996's were always a bit weak on holding their value even when I was looking 2 years ago. I definitely had more 996s to choose from and quite a few cheaper than the 993 I bought. However, I never even ventured into GT3 territory but my gut says they have to be better than any C, CS, or C4S in the 996 series.

I am actually thinking of putting mine up for sale. Don't need to but it might be the smart time to do so.

Its my opinion that the 993 C4S will hold its value better than the 996 GT3 especially being the last of the air-cooled cars. I say that because 997 GT3 pricing has also come down and one would think its a better car, certainly from an appearance perspective and not looking at the merits of performance yet.

You could list your C4S for $45 and easily sell it for around $41 to $43k depending on mileage, condition, etc.

I agree with the above statements. There is no reason why these cars especially the all original/clean/accident free 20-40k milers shouldn't/won't command the prices of 5-8 yrs ago + some. There's simply not as many that fit that criteria as there were 7-8 yrs ago.
And it seems as if there has been a huge run on turbos in the last year, at least here on rennlist. Which are even more limited.

Default How about in the mid-30's

There is an Arena Red 993 Carrera 4S for sale at Smith Volvo in San Luis Obispo, CA. I believe it has about 50,000 miles, unmolested and very clean. Talk to Brent Smith the owner..tell him Martin referred you. Brent and I are racing buddies.

The car iOS priced at about $37,000, not 100% sure, but I know its a bargain and in great shape.

Nope...I looked at that one. Its on consignment, salesmen had difficulty getting service records for it and its around 86k miles...

Not a good deal at all.

Unless it has issues, $37K asking price for a 86K mile AR C4S doesn't sound too bad...you don't see widebodies go much less than $35K regardless of mileage.

I have to say - I find the pricing discussions interesting. I had my 97 black/tan 4s on the market two years ago - advertised in many places. At that time it had 48k miles, full history, sport seats, tasteful mods. Lots of extras. For 41k.

I couldn't get a person to come within 10 miles of it. Everyone wanted to email me - no one wanted to call or come see the car. I probably had 50 emails with various questions.

There are LOTS of digital tire kickers out there. I find far fewer actual buyers. My .02
