Convertible Top Frame Repair
Hey there! It's been almost 2 years, but I'm still alive and I still have the 993, which now has 45k miles. Some of you may recall that I bent my convertible top frame when one of the cables jammed and the other one kept on going. After a temporary fix which lasted two seasons, the top finally completely failed to close automatically, and I was able to find the front half of the frame at a Porsche salvage yard advertised in Panorama. Yesterday, I dropped it off at the convertible top specialist in Boston that my good friend, who is a VW mechanic, has been sending cars to for decades. He replaced the front half of the frame, and the last time i talked to him he was almost finished adjusting the frame. Apparently, I also bent a u-shaped bolt that holds the frame to the body, and miraculously, the local dealership had one! The car should be ready on Monday, new frame and canvas as well! It's gonna look like a brand-new car! Sorry for the absence. I joined a local VW club two years ago, which is very active, and is my new car family. About 30 or more of us meet every Wednesday rain or shine, and I kind of put Rennlist aside (but not my Porsche). Hope everyone and their Porsches are doing well!!!
