Keep the 993 and get the Audi as well. Had my B5 Avant since new and it's been great...now has 155k miles on it. Perfect for the really crappy winters we can get in New England

Keep the 993, much better quality for everything. I have a b5 (2002) s4 and a c5 (2004) allroad, both are great, reliable and nice all year round. Don't get me wrong, the fit and feel are very nice, compared to say a Cadillac of the same year, and the power isn't bad at all, since both of mine are the bi-turbo 2.7 v6 with some stuff done. However it is not a substitute for a Porsche, even my measly little 951
If you sell the 993, as stated before you will be able to get something with much less miles and still have some $$$ left after the sale.

I would love an rs4 avant, but I'm probably going to have to start paying for my own insurance soon, so the 2.0T Avant seems like the best choice, plenty of torque and power, but still looks good on the insurance side. Besides that, the LED's on the B8 A4's are my favorite!(Well besides an R8 )

But, many here do their own work, which can save a lot. I also think many spend much more on "upgrades" or mods to their cars, because they choose to. A 993 in good shape isn't too needy, for the most part. Of course, daily driving and/or different weather can affect operating costs.
I think the 993 is more DIY friendly, durable and simple compated to a high mileage, more recent Audi.

My Audi RS2 has cost me more in maintenance than my Porsche 993 Turbo over the years of ownership. Both are great cars in different ways. Just don´t believe that an Audi is bulletproof. They are not. That includes the newer cars as well. They might have nicer quality feel than most of the competition in their class, but that does not mean that they don´t break down.
