Reverse hard to engage suddenly from shifter (but works ok)
Did a quick search but couldn't find too much.
Suddenly its hard to get the shifter over far enough to get it into reverse. Almost takes two hands. It will go, and all gears and everything work normally, but its almost as though the shifter is hitting the side of the console to get it to go into reverse. Also has a somewhat different feel, almost that it eventually "falls" into place instead of being pushed in like it used to if that makes any sense. Not on my car, but a family members 993. Just trying to help him out.

All of the other gears feel okay?
I would have them first look at the linkage underneath the car and make sure nothing is bent/binding/stuck etc. If that all looks good you can pop the linkage off the transmission shifter shaft with just one bolt. Using your hand you can shift the transmission through the gears. This will help rule out the linakge/shifter completely but hopefully you don't get that far.

I bet that bolt that chaoscreature mentions is almost falling out.
remove the small panel in front of the tranny cover, push the little rubber boot back and check to see if the bolt connecting the shift rod to the transmission is actually threaded in place.

what was the fix to the gear problem?
hi black993
did you find out what the problem was?
was having to push the shifter over - against the console sorted out by adjusting the tansmission bolt?
thanks,
