Moving to Dallas, TX ... couple of questions
I just took a new job that will eventually require us to move to Dallas, TX from Raleigh, NC. By eventually I mean as soon as our house sells.
First question, should I ship the 993 via enclosed carrier or drive it?
Second question, what's the best independent 993 specialist shop in the Dallas area?
Thanks.

Reach out to 2 guys that live in the Dallas area, Patrick (Texas993) and Brian (bbs993tt). They know the area well and indie shops there. I bought my car from RAC Performance in Dallas. They are a former RUF dealer and have been in the area for a long time. They seem very good with the mechanicals on these cars, but they are not as concerned with the cosmetics (just my .02,and this is coming from the perspective of buying a car from them, not having it serviced by them). I got my PPI done at an indie shop right down the road from RAC, but I can't recall the name right now, I'm sure Brian or Patrick would know.
Definitely use an enclosed carrier or put it on the moving truck if you can...I got my car shipped from Dallas to Richmond,VA and the quotes I got were mostly in the $1000 range for enclosed trailer, FWIW.
Good Luck!

Several good indies in the area. Most notable are Zims, Mayo, RAC and Louden's. I only have personal experience with Zims and couldn't have been happy with the service and rates.

Welcome to Dallas! RAC has been servicing my car for 6 years now, could not be happier with their service! Where in Dallas are you moving to? Been in Real Estate for over 20 years, let me know if I can answer any questions for you!

Thanks guys. I appreciate the help.
JK (SC2993) we haven't even started looking, although my wife is very familiar with Dallas as her childhood best friend lives there. I think we'll start with the "M" streets, "Disney" streets, and the areas around University and Highland Park. I will definitely PM you once we get a little further into our search. Thanks again.

I'll echo what others have said about Ruf, but VA993 is being too kind when speaking of me.
Also, JK is your man for residential real estate!

DFW is a good place for a gearhead. Look at www.dfwautoclub.com once you get settled into Dallas and want to start checking out local automotive activities.

If you get, or are into track work, DFW is mighty fine for that, and makes up for the lack of twisties. I used to get 5 or 6 track weekends in a year without even trying. MSR is a great track.

Welcome to Dallas! RAC is the only shop that my car has been to, Hans will take care of you. Zims and Mayo have a good reputation, as stated above.
Yes, we have a good Porsche community here, but the roads suck. Join us for Palooza and a few other events where we leave town in search of good driving!
I live in University Park so let me know if you need anything. Bring your Misquito repellant! No kidding, we have a West Nile epidemic here now. My wife's mother just returned from the hospital for 3 weeks and will be in PT for months. All due to a damn misquito bite.
