Default Need help understanding cause of an engine issue

I went out to my car today and found the flex duct that atachés between the engine cooling shroud and the ductwork on top of the engine shattered with a section about the size of a half dollar missing out of the middle. I don't know what the cause of this might be. Some sort of explosive force behind it? The rubber seemed flexible and not dried out or weakened. Any thoughts?

Andy, the fan cover dries out with the time and breaks. This is a commen issue and nothing to worry about. Get a new one from the dealer or online porsche part shops and you are fine for the next 60T miles or so.

Yeah, its part of a 15+ year old car and crappy rubber. The one one should last just as long...

Yup, a common "expendable part", mine went in 2011 on the '96TT. Along with a lot of turbo and vacuum hoses.

Just replaced mine. Car has 47,000 miles on it (over 16 years.)
Just part of 'normal replacement(s)' - nothing to get bent out of shape over.

I believe there are two part #'s for this - one for non-varioram cars and turbos, and the other for varioram cars.

I have a brand new non-vram part (964.106.403.02) that I'll part with for $50 + shipping. PM me if you are interested.

p.s. I think I may have to renew my membership to recieve pm's -- can someone confirm this?
