Newbee - Triple Black 95'
So after a few month search, here is my new ride, delivered last week. I am now officially transferring from the 964 Turbo forum to here.
Because "this thread w/o pics is useless", here we go.
95 cab (nov 94 production), 30xxxk miles. I wasn't dead set on low miles but I wanted a very good condition. I almost bought a black cab from Tim Holt but he wouldn't budge on price. Not that I lowballed him. This one is a private sale.
I looked at 997s too but considering this is a week end "i only drive it when I want" car, I finally went for a 993. 997 still expensive too.
I love the black interior. My dark blue 86 has cashmere and so had my my black 964 Turbo 3.6 (gone), so I welcome the change.
Only comment from my wife: this is a lot of black for such a small car.
Clean carfax and autocheck though no records before 2005. No maintenance book too, but receipts since 2005 showing care and an overall great condition. No issues on PPI. The PO bought it from an Official P center and the same center had sold it once before.
Options & specs are:
C02 US emissions
XD4 Crested Rim Caps
220 Locking Differential 40% (LSD)
224 Automatic Limited Slip Differential (ABD)
233 Pirelli Tires
331 Radio CR 1
398 17” Cup Wheels
437 Comfort Seat Left (electric)
454 Cruise control
09991: Exclusive department ( not sure what for, maybe the cassette holder).
Not too much to be done - for now.
- annual service
- new AC resistor
- The car has Conti sportcontact in the front and Nexen 300 in the rear, which made me raise an eyebrow to the owner...However, both have 80pc thread on them so I gave them a pass for nows.
- got to put a new stereo, at least something with an aux jack. The Panasonic head unit is not amazing and the front left speaker is shot.
- new floor mats from Pelican, but the car does with its original ones.
Thinking of upgrading the exhaust, just to hear it breathe a bit better. I would welcome feedback from your own experiences.
First impressions:
As a background I still have my '86 3.2, which I drove it extensively in vacation over the past two weeks.
Compared to the 86, the 993 is another world, much easier. But the 3.2 sounds actually better...with a 100pc stock and 26 y old system.
Compared to the Turbo 3.6, well, it's a more complete experience, less on off/straight line. To me, the real difference is the impact of the LSA. I never got to like the ride of the 964. I have to admit though that after the Turbo 3.6, I wondered if the 993 wasn't working on two cylinders....
Compared to modern production the car is short on low end torque, but that's all part of the package. I think except for P cars, the sports car market has become the playground of paddle shift V8s. Not a bad thing, and it makes the 993 feel like a terrific package, a classic one now. Cannot be beaten for steering feel and nimbleness.
It's also my first cab. I never thought I could do without the roofline, but hey, the wind cries Mary.
Best to all,

Very nice! I debated the Cab vs. Coupe as well. While I do miss some of that classic 911 profile, its overcome by the enjoyment of a top-down drive around the back roads near my home.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

Welcome to this corner of the madness. Youve summed up the thrill of the 993 cab quite well with that lyrical line. Im still humming it. Enjoy in good health under sunny skies.

Welcome to black 993'ers! Enjoy your stay here and keep it clean. Any mods ideas, just a suggestion go for bushes, suspension overhaul, mm, and ssk plus goldenrod mod. Preventative mods as I like to justify it plus I enjoy driving the sh$t out of it.. I driven it for over a year daily, I've become so used to clutching hard , to me its pretty darn quick.
I'll say this though, my corner balanced PSS10's tranforms my car into a point and shot terror. Love it!
Good luck and nice pics, car looks clean man.
