Im going in for an oil change on my '95 C2 cab this weekend at a local indy that's been recommended. I was wondering what other members typically pay for an oil change for reference as I'm assuming a 12-quart job costs more than usual. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Tom, I do my own oil changes and I spend about $85+tax
$55 for 2 5qt jugs mobil 1 w15-50
$30 for the 2 OEM filters and rings...

Under $95 using synthetic oil, OE oil filters, new drain washers and O-ring.

Long Island NY: My indy usually charges me $200, and I try and time it so that I get a NY inspection done on the same day too. (Two birds).

He encouraged me to switch to Motul two years ago - and I've had no problems during the last 5,000 miles. In the last 5,000 miles it's used less than 1/4 of a quart (no kidding.)

Guys, some folks just don't have the time or even the desire to do this job themselves, there's nothing wrong with that.

Tom, an oil change is not going to get 12 qts. out unless they take hoses off the oil cooler (and that's not reasonable). Expect ~10 qts for the refill.

I would highly encourage you to make sure you have a good understanding of when and how to check the oil and where it should be on the dipstick. Have your tech show you if need be. That is critical for all owners, not just those of us who do our own work.

Bill, I've read that when I first took possession of my 993 almost three years ago and many times since and the usual advice is "do not over-fill".

Anything on the twisted part of a 993 dipstick or between the "min" and "max" marks on any dipstick is an operation range in my book (although I always keep it at the "max").

My last oil change on my 993 had the oil level at one-needle-width below the "max" line on the oil level gauge and that also corresponded to an oil level some 3 or 4 mm below the top end of the spiral on my dipstick. Thousands of miles later...no measureable difference in oil level indication on the dipstick...maybe down 2 mm from initial fill.

So now I have to wonder why some/many are having high oil consumption rates when the needle is above the Rennlist max recommended 3 o'clock position on the oil level gauge. Maybe that level does not correspond with the actual level on the dipstick and the engine is in fact over-filled. Owners ought to verify that.

I've also noted inconsistent oil level gauge readings, yet the level on the dipstick is constant. The level sender is original and who knows what condition the wiper/resistive element are in.

I found an indie that does it for $170, changing out both filters. DIY is a mess. I watched him drain the oil and it was spraying all over the place. When its already over $100 in material, its worth it. And dont forget to properly contain and dispose 10quarts of oil.

Zims charged me $180 when I had my oil changed about 4 months ago. Mobil 1 15/50 plus both oil filters. The quote I got from mayo was a lot higher and I was afraid to call RAC.
