Default Good For Another 2 Years!

Got my DMV renewal in the mail the other day. Car needs the biannual smog certification. Since I have a SAI CEL issue, I cleared the codes and went through the OBD II test drive; thought I had it licked as Durametric indicated 4 of 5 passing readiness codes. Smog shop said the codes were not set, but I insisted they run the test anyway. $40 later, failed test due to readiness codes and high HC.

Ran some Chevron Pro-Guard injector cleaner and did another OBD II test drive; I think I utilized the BMW driving cycle; Codes set and HC level OK.

PASSED AGAIN!

Good for another 2 years!

Now you've got another two years to come up with a solution for what's tripping the CEL !!!

I personally 'like' Berryman's B12 in every 2nd. tankful (600 miles). I've tried Seafoam but it makes the engine smoke a LOT! Speaking of smoke, I also put a cupful, or so, of Marvel Mystery Oil (in the fuel tank) every 4th. fill-up (and skip the B12). 48,000 miles on the odometer, no CEL or pending codes, regularly get 25mpg (and I don't drive 55!). Now mind u, all the benefits of the above "additives" are diminished if you don't keep up the maintenance on your spark-plugs, wires, distributors and filter!

Gerry

No checks of any kind here, ever.

It's freezing cold/poor weather most of the year up there too. We all make our choices

Oh, there are so many reasons to rail against Canada. Socialist health care. Pleasant people. Sarah Chalke. John Candy. Maple leafs. Steve Nash. It's embarassing to even share a border with them....

I'm just teasing. I love Canada, actually. I lived in Vancouver for many years, and I think Canada is the best country I've ever visited. If any part of Canada had weather that was comparable to Southern California, I'd gladly give up my U.S. citizenship in a heartbeat to live there

But when it comes to weather, Canada has nothing on SoCal. Guess I'll hafta take 330 days of great weather every year and a smog check every 2 years.

I was kidding too. I was ready to move there circa 2004, but my wife would not agree. But, if the weather was good in Canada, it would be filled with assh*les, just like SoCal!

[yes, kidding again]

Default SMOG

I lived in L.A. for two years in the 80s.
Even then, it would take till 11am for the SMOG to burn off.
Prob alot worse now. Agreed, we have bad weather but we breathe better to.

Actually, the air has been much improved, due to smog reducing devices in cars and strict enforcement, but it's still not great. It's the people here that have gotten worse

Yes, Montreal has way better air quality than Los Angeles. Lots of rain, snow and moisture in the air ensures that.

So, it's either great air quality/terrible weather, or poor air/great weather. Like I said earlier, we all make our choices
