Lightbulb Porsche is giving away a free DME holder for your spare relay!

If you haven't read 1 of the many helpful RL threads about the importance of buying a spare DME relay, find & read 1 now!

To help motivate you to make the prudent purchase, Porsche includes a 'free' holder for your first DME spare

Just take your spare, open your fuse container, and note the vacant "R41" spot.
FYI, "R41" is German for 'spare DME holder' (trust me - I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night).

It also turns out that, though unused in the 993, Relay 41 is the 964's DME slot -- the plug blade configuration's the same as spot R53 for your 993 DME (part #944.615.227.00 or 993.615.227.00).

That is interesting...I don't understand the Holiday Inn reference, but you are sure this is a spare slot? Have you checked the electrical diagram, etc? I think if i store my spare in that slot I will put tape over it marked "spare."

Free? - I don't think so. . . . .

:-)

I keep mine in the kit w/ the spare belts up front. This is probably a better place.

Thank you.

Interesting, and all this time I've been keeping my spare in the spare DME box inside the car (some people call it the glove box, although I'm not sure why, as I've never had gloves in it...

Thanks for the info. I just got back in from the garage from installing the relay in the spare relay holder.
Wait...what! I'll be right back, Wife is calling me about a bunch of smoke coming from the garage....

Did you check the equivalent of relay pin 30 with the key in run position? Some of the 'spare' relay slots are energized to +12V on the 30 buss - I'd have to check that one.
Anyway, that's a method of picking up switched power for other tricks, as long as the fuse is in to complete the circuit ..... until I verify that it is a dead slot, my jumpers & relay remain in the "glove box". ( if live, it could be rendered 'dead' by pulling whatever fuse - as long as nothing else essential is also tagged to that fuse)

This community has given me much. It's rare to find something new with these 993s, but I've never heard this topic discussed.
If I can give anything back to aid others, perfect!

^^ ^^

I just got back from a drive to a casual car show & back; no issues.

Upon return, I switched the main DME with the spare relay -- she started right up

Yessir, I did check the etc.
There's a photo of it below, with red to highlight the pertinent parts of my fuse holder's label.

Paul-- Maybe it's a 'south of the border' thang.
For y'all up north, maybe relaying I had a bottle of "liquid courage" in my hand while writing this last night would have communicated better
