Part number is 993 504 521 00 in case anyone else is looking for one of these things. It is just called an 'end piece'

That "tube" in the mystery rubber thing probably allows the air to escape when that seal is compressed during hood closure. Have a look.

As for the mystery rubber thing itself, it completes the seal to the edge of the body and main compartment seal. If you check, you'll see the edge angled to conform with the hood lid...Porsche goes overboard when it comes to detail...typisch Deutsch.
alex, looks like you're probably right. I always thought it directed water.

Anyway, I was wrong, sorry for the bad info.

I prefer "mystery rubber thing". Way more mystique!

No worries!

I just have to wonder why they bother with them other than its nice to know that Porsche goes to that level of detail.

Had to pop the hood...one loose and one missing...learn something new everyday. Ordering a replacement today...the trick being not to throw in a few more items that I do not really need.
