Default OT: The New 2013 Cayman S - Quite a car.

The new 2013 Cayman was unveiled here in Los Angeles earlier today. Wow.

The new Cayman S weighs under 3000 lbs., has 325 horses, and to my eye, is now better looking than the 991. Almost has a smaller Aston Martin Vantage shape to it. Not a bad thing. The interior has also been updated nicely as well. It even gets about 30 mpg on the highway. What's not to like?

Thanks for the link. It's a good looking coupe. Question: would say,,,, a parking attendent find a parked Cayman if you replied, "mines the silver Porsche"? ...Times they are a changing, er have changed.

Top Gear,,,, get a new Cayman S or whatever in the Stig's hands pronto. Make's ya wanna stop bye a Porsche showroom. O but in todays money, the Cayman's cost is going be stupid $ .... Starts at $63K and when you're done its $80k + or better. Bitch, bitch, bitch.

Nice weight loss from the previous MY12 Cayman series...

If I was in the market for a new P-car, unless I regularly had rear passengers there seems to be very little reason to buy a 991. The need to make a stripped down clubsport version....no electrics, basic radio, minimal sound proofing, etc "burnout:

If I were buying a new Porsche, I would consider the new Cayman before a 991.

If I were buying a new Porsche it wouldn't be a Porsche, but an R8

But yeah, the Cayman looks very nice, has the same engine (as in same displacement AND compression) as a base Carrera so HP can be bumped with a software upgrade pretty easily.

My oldest son has a '06 Cayman S and it's a great car. This new one looks even better... nice job Porsche! I also think it looks better and smaller than the 991.

i can only imagine that the updates have made this car even better. i was never a fan of the caymans until i was taken for a hot lap around atlanta's AMP by a pro driver in a Cayman R. Its a very capable car..... taking corners 2x as fast as i would be comfortable in the 993

The price? (But that's my knock on anything new.) We had a similar discussion on our local, basically non-Porsche owning, list. As the sum total of my 5 911s barely exceed what a half-assed optioned Cayman S would cost, I figured if I had to downsize to a single unit at that price point it would be a 997 Turbo or 996 GT2.

And with a bit of instruction/practice you could corner your own 993 twice as fast. (In reality, I'd say it's 10-15% faster, but there's that illusion from being a passenger.) It wouldn't take much to have a similar power/weight ratio 914-6 work the track the same as a Cayman. Or even a torsion bar era 911. What you would NOT have is any semblance of usability on the street, nor the ability to "drive sloppy" to achieve the same pace. That's where technology is wonderful. But I'll still pass on $500/mo. depreciation..........

I think every angle is amazing except a strait on shot from the rear...kinda looks odd and square, missing the glorious hips of the Gen 1.
