I have always wanted to attend this race week. I tried to book a hotel in December but they are all sold out one year in advance. The course is over 37 miles long with hundreds of turns and 1300' of elevation change. The weather can go from bright sun to thick fog or pouring rain in 1/4 mile. There are a few air fences now, but if you go off at most turns you are likely to hit either a stone wall, a building, a tree or a hundred that year old hedge that will shred you like a blender. There is one day before the races start that the public is allowed to ride the course. Each year one or two of the testosterone crazed young men would die. Joey Dunlop has the most amazing record of wins here.....he died when he hit a tree next to a road course in eastern Europe a while back. His little brother is now one of the top riders on the island. I agree with the Flying Finn about these guy's *****.

Yes its an amazing event. My sister and brother in law go every year and they have to book their rented cottage a full year in advance to secure it.
Joey's brother, Robert, sadly died in the Northwest 200 road race a couple of years ago. But Robert's two sons (Joey's nephews) both race in the TT despite the demise of their father/uncle.
Madness. But obviously addictive.

Holy cow!
I knew the TT was mad but not that it is that mad. Also, the spectators look to be incredibly close to the track.
