I owned an Alfa Romeo GTV (916) for 8 years and used it as a daily driver all year around here in Scandinavia. Had no problem what so ever there was no visible rust when I finally sold the car and bought the 993 turbo. I still miss that 3.0 V6 engine. What a sound and character it had. Might pick up a 156 GTA one day just for that engine. Don´t really care about its being fwd.
A friend of mine had an old GTV 1750 with double Weber carburettors. It was a beautiful little car and fun to drive even by todays standard. A good one has became quite expensive lately here in europe.

Alfa is a sad story. in the early 1960s, they were a competitor of Porsche and ahead of BMW. It was all downhill from there.

From the other end of the spectrum, I worked on enough of them back in the early '80s to know to stay far, far, far, far away. Spica MFI, anyone? And that's when all of the things were relatively new. I suppose now in CA you could do whatever you want with the engine, given no smog checks on the '75-and-earliers.
That said, look up John Norman and what he's done over the decades racing this GTV, often at the highest level of amateur (even pro!) racing.

I did and was sure I was going to replace my 2002tii with a GTV back in the day. Until I test drove one. Everything -- every switch, the gear shift, everything -- felt like it was designed to fall apart when you sneezed. Italian cars sure are beautiful. But poorly designed. Thanks, I'll stick with the Germans.....

it sounds remarkably like my Volvo 242GT
I finally got to whirl it awhile back to a local coffee and cars
what a let down
overall a meh experience IMO
not offensive, just not what I'd hoped
I do believe in the OP's subject-line-mantra tho... maybe a nice tidy Boattail someday?
and while the GTV's do look fabulous... the Giulietta's the one to get

every time it was in the shop he borrowed my 68 Barracuda that i had bought from some dude for $300 in Watts LA, CA.
the roommate was a hip dude and hated being seen in the 'Cuda .
good think i cycled to work because he borrowed it a bunch!
