Ha! Definitely wasn't cheap, but I guess it's all relative. Compared to what we spend on our cars, I was able to rationalize the cost.

I also made the case that this bike hopefully will continue to appreciate, or at thge very least NOT depreciate. Based on what my money market fund is doing these days, I'm calling this a sound asset diversification strategy (at least that's what I'm telling my wife!).

Stellar examples of these bikes are getting harder and harder to find and I think Honda only imported 200-300 of them into the US and only in 1990. There were higher production numbers in Europe and i think they were offered starting in 1987 or 1998.

Saw this cool vid on youtube on the RC30. Hand crafted in a separate facility from the standard production bikes in Japan.

Funny thing is, all the other bikes mentioned above cant hold a candle to this fine example of your hand built race bike. RC-30's were rare even when they were built; now it takes $25K-30K just to entertain the idea of ownership.
Very nice find, but if you're not going to ride it, you should just pass it onto someone who will...Here, let me help you with that!

The RC30 is a very nice bike. Congratulations!

From time to time I watch RC30´s for sale. I was thinking of buying one in early 2000, but regretfully did not. I wanted something newer at that point and bought the Ducati 748R I still have in my possession. In hindsight I should have bought the RC30 as well. I had the funds for it. The RC30 was not more expensive than new japanese bike 10 years ago. Pricing aside it keeps getting harder to find a nice one. At this point of life I would rather buy a classic bike than a new one.

Nice Darin!! Cool to see so many 993 owners sharing the love for cool bikes.

One of the things that rekindled my love for bikes was watching the Isle of Man TT. Those guys are nuts!!

I love ducati's. 748r is a great bike. I went to a local Ducati dealership and was tempted to put a deposit down on the new 1199r. Way too much bike for me but it's a gorgeous piece of hardware.

Nine9six, stop by if you're ever in the area and I'll let you take the RC for a spin. That goes for anyone. These bikes should be riden! It's definitely not the fastest but it handles like no other, is surprisingly small and nimble and has the smoothest gear shift I've ever experienced. Then there's the sound...

steve get back.... dont you have another bike you need to be working on...
Chad - shut it. I have plans for many more builds. I will start the Yamaha RD350 project(s) as soon as the Yamamoto is done.

Kevin, that RC30 is just beautiful. If you don't have time to ride it, just set it somewhere that you can enjoy it. Oh, and feel free to post pics of it every know and again so the rest of us can enjoy it too.

Radar...

I recently sold my MV Agusta 312. Currently have a KTM Super Duke, BMW K1300GT and a 64 Honda 300 Dream. I had a friend check out a Honda CX Turbo in SoCal last week but it was junk. Now I'm chasing an old RD400...

Kmy,
Back in 1992 I purchased a brand new RC30 (VIN no. 222) from Midlothian Honda and kept it for several years. Only 300 were imported to the US. It had set for two two years on a high pedistal above the showroom, due to the high price at that time. While a friend was visting he saw a picture of an RC30 in a magazine I had sitting around and went on to tell me about the one at Midlothian honda. Within 5 minutes we were on our way to the dealer where I made a cash offer and bought it.
It is almost a peice of art, and well worth the money.
I always regreted selling that bike. I have owned a RC51 and came close to buying an RC45.
There are no other bikes that have that awsome growl at high rpm.
Enjoy,
Al Z

Wow... gorgeous example.

I've been keeping an eye out for a Ducati 748 or 916... I just need to save my sheckels a little more!
