Default Tour of Vermont with a Twist

Interested in a Rennlist tour of New England in the Spring with a twist? (Pun intended) We are planning an overnight cruise back to Skyline Drive in Manchester Vermont where everyone had a great time a few years ago. Skyline Drive is a privately owned 5.2 mile steep and winding road that goes up Mt. Equinox. On Saturday and Sunday May 18th and 19th, we are planning to cruise up to Manchester. The event agenda will be something like this: cruise up to Manchester Saturday morning arriving early/mid afternoon (its about 3 hours from Danbury). Once in Manchester we would check into the host hotel, The Inn At Willow Pond (www.innatwillowpond.com). Cost is $99 a night plus the usual taxes and fees. (it's not the Ritz Carlton but it's clean and owned by a fellow P car enthusiast) If time allows there are some neat shops in Manchester. We are then planning an informal "peoples choice absolutely no cleaning required" car show in the Hotel parking lot for the late afternoon followed by a catered buffet style barbecue dinner in the hotel's chalet (cost to be determined).
Sunday would be breakfast followed by a cruise ending at Skyline Drive http://www.equinoxmountain.com/index.php. We have the road reserved from 10 am to 2 pm for runs up the mountain. You can go as fast or as slow as you like. Lunch would be picnic style at the top of the Mountain. The planned part of the cruise would be over at 2:00 pm and you can travel home as a group, several groups, or individually.
We are doing this cruise as a fundraiser for a very important organization called Survive The Drive, www.survivethedrive.org, . Survive The Drive goes into high schools and does a very effective presentation to the juniors and seniors about the dangers of driving irresponsibly. Bob Greene, a Skip Barber instructor, is nationally recognized for his expertise and the effectiveness of this program. The required donation is $25 per car. Skyline Drive costs $15
As I mentioned, we did this a few years ago and it was a great experience and that was before the road was newly paved. I've attached a link to a You Tube Video that will give you an idea of what the run up the Mountain is all about. We will also tours some great roads of Vermont early Sunday morning as well. If you're interested, please post here or PM me and I'll add you to the list. The meeting point and time has not been established yet so please be patient on some of the final details. This should be an epic and fantastic time for all of us. Let me know who wants to join.

Skyline Drive is an awesome road with fantastic views...

These were taken w/ my cell phone the day before Tropical Storm/Hurricane Irene hit a couple of years back.

The restaurant at the top was being re-constructed. I'm unsure if it is completed as of yet.

Regards,

Makes one want to come visit, renting another Bitchin' Impala. Alas, we'll be in Mexico.

Thanks for sharing Al. It's an awesome trip up the mountain. We did this about 3 or 4 years ago and it was great. Now the road is paved, I can't wait.

Skyline Drive in Vermont is worth the trip. And Survive The Drive is a great organization. I hope lots of folks can join us.

Hi Bob, I came across your post today and can't help but be interested. It sounds like a nice group of people, a beautiful location and a good cause. Is this envisioned to be a spouse friendly outing or a "just the guys" kind of thing? Cheers!
