Default Tequipment Gear Shift and e-brake - Installed

Got these in, and I think they spruce up the interior nicely!

Only thing is the gearshift **** feels a bit loose. The old one had a little bit of glue (?) holding it straight as it is a compression fit. Anybody know what kind of glue? I assume something that isn't permanent in case you need to remove.

Nice, looks great...
Does that shift **** have the 5mm allen set screw? Or just compression fit as you noted?
If it feels loose, it will probably make a rattle sound in the mid RPM range.
I've been having a heck of a time trying to get my Root wood shift **** (original to the car) not to rattle. Yesterday, I wrapped the shift lever with athletic tape and jammed the **** back on... even had to use a rubber hammer with folded up rag to dampen, to pound it back in place. Damn thing still rattles.

Its just compression fit, no set screw. The old one popped off the shift rod and left a bit of glue residue. I guess I need a few dabs of some type of glue.

Why? Do you find yourself pulling upward on your shift **** for no apparent reason?

I see not point in glue, once pressed into place...Unless of course, you want to make it more difficult to remove.

BTW, the net result looks great!

The **** 'rotates' a little bit from side to side (left and right)...so the numbers are slightly askew if I'm not careful. Does that make sense?

makes sense, but would think it shouldn't be moving, especially being that it is a new part

I meant to say the **** twists a little side to side on the lever.

The old **** def. had a bit of glue keeping it straight on the lever.

Hm. Why don't you pull that puppy off and put a couple wraps of duct tape on the tip of the shift lever to make it more of a 'close drive fit' .. if you know what I mean

I might do that.

The old original one has a little set screw to keep it aligned. It was also weighted...for a weighty feel.

This one looks great but is a little less weighted so gear shifts aren't as positive.

^^^ Yes, it's interesting that Porsche used a heavy aluminum disk for the shift pattern about 3/8's thick for the early Tequipment Aluminum and Al/Carbon combo shifters, but then then the S came out in '97, they switched to a plastic one that is much lighter and not as 'solid feeling'. I imagine that's what these new 'Tequipment' shifters are using now as well ..

Yeah, its a little disappointing. I drove a friends car and his was weighted so it must have been the 'early' version.

I checked in with Luke at Sunset and he said some his customers have used a few dabs of glue to hold it 'straight.'

Great set up, it was the first interior upgrade I made to mine - dealer ordered and installed, never experienced any issues
Only comment I can offer is that the stock shifter is lower so you have to get used to that
