Last couple of start ups I get a puff of smoke out the right exhaust. Recently changed oil, using AMSOIL 5W40 WHICH IS 993 SPEC FOR THIS CAR. Any ideas as to cause? I know sometimes it is a temporary condition. The car sits weeks at a time and is driven only about 2,000 miles a year.Have not noticed this before.No power loss and car runs great. I did add a bottle of chevron injector cleaner a couple tank fulls ago. Appreciate the help. Yes guys I tried the search function. Thanks.

I get the same after my sits around for a week or so. Haven't thought too much about it.

The longer it sits, the more likely you'll see a puff at start up. Under the circumstances you describe, not to worry. It's just oil settling in the cylinder which is a natural thing when the car sits for a while....

Nothing to worry about it is typical for all Porsches to puff some smoke after they've been siting for over a week. Not to worry.

Not to cloud the issue even further (no pun intended), but I recall some correlation to filter brands. ie 1 brand let more oil backflow than another after shutdown. I see you said out 1 exhaust, but since you probably changed your filter....
Maybe getting the particulars wrong, but that is the general gist of it.

I think they were referring to the TT, not NA 993s.

This is not normal. You are also using the wrong oil viscosity for a 993. Should be using a 15W50 or 20W50. There are 3 highly recommended (Steve W.) oils for the 993. Not on the list is Amsoil. Only use OEM Porsche oil filters with the proper torque.

It's always best to add the Chevron system cleaner prior to an oil change. Hopefully you did this in that sequence.

I did and I do sell AMSOIL. But I mention it because I believe it to be the best. I will check on the viscosity. Thanks for all the comments. Bring on more!

At the risk of getting into another oil talk, i'll say that your engine will likely run just fine on 5w40. If it doesn't, there's probably something else wrong with the engine.
