I hear you there- had to take the 993 to work on Monday- all other cars in use- was minus 5 . Took 20 minutes of idling to get the needle to budge on the temp gauge -

As noted by Ilko and others in the thread below, simply idling the car is not ideal for warming the engine. The car will warm much faster if you simply drive it, but let the engine warm for a few minutes before leaning on the throttle. Better to get some air flowing through the coolers.

I've heard Ilko's car in person several times and it's the best sounding 993 that I've heard. The video is nice but doesn't do its justice.

Great sounding exhaust, Ilko. I love that 3 mile long tunnel. 4-5k rpm with my Fister III

As Foxman suggested, you don't want to idle the engine after you start it up. Best way is to just drive off and keep it at low RPM (below 4K) until you see the oil temp needle start to creep up.

Thank you sir! You're right, it doesn't do it justice. I want to be able to make a better recording but I can't seem to find an external mic that plugs into an iPhone AND you can record a video with it. Yesterday I just opened the window and was horsing around.

So, wanna loan it out so I can take it for a quick run to PA on Sunday? On second thought I won't cancel that Amtrak reservation, as we'd have an awfully irritated lunch companion on Monday if I subjected Karen to your car for a ~5 hour round trip.

PSS10 on soft is quite comfy. And the sport seats are very supportive on long drives. I put 400+ miles on the car yesterday and can't say I was fatigued at all. But that doesn't mean I'd let you borrow it Kidding aside I actually need it on Sunday.

A little update... The 993 has been put away from winter duty and I've been spending more time with the red sled.

So now I'm looking to do some 993 maintenance. The faces of a couple of my OEM silver gauges have started to develop small bubbles. And my oil pressure gauge has been acting up. Initially I'd tap it and it'd go back to normal but lately it has not responded to the "fracas."

I was never a fan of the silver gauges to begin with, they are a stupid '90s fashion trend, and don't look all that special. So I decided it was a good time to swap them all with the "classic" black gauges. I was able to source out a complete set from a 40K mile 993 for $800 which I thought was quite reasonable. They arrived yesterday and look great:

Now I'm in the process of "winding up" the speedometer. I've opened these before but prefer to keep this one a "virgin" and do it electrically... According to my basic math, I have 53 days to go before I hit 112K miles at this speed. It will be ready just in time to drive the 993 to the Canadian Grand Prix...

Cool!! I always wondered how people "sync'd" their mileage on their new/used odometers.

LOL, I'm pretty sure there's a more efficient way of doing it. I'm hitting it with 12V and interestingly enough it tops at 60MPH. The "speed" drops when I lower the voltage to 9. I don't want to raise the voltage and see if it will go faster, because I'm afraid it might fry something inside...

So far so good though. I've put 280 miles on it since before lunch time.

I live an hour from Montreal. I wouldn't leave ANY vehicle worth money unattended in that city. Guy I know walked out of Mcdonald's after lunch and found his brand new Ford 250 along with his two new snowmobiles GONE. Thieves up there target foreign vehicles.

My car is protected by the almighty Matt Lane in Montreal. Nobody dares to touch it.

Kidding aside, I've been driving up in a Porsche to watch the race there for the past 6 years. So far so good.

After a month and a half and 72K miles of "driving" I'm almost there...

Later today we'll have an unplugging ceremony when it hits 112,773 miles.
