New (to me...) wheels for the 993
Hi all, after 2 years and lots of good advice from the various 'wheel' authorities on the forum...I decided on a simple upgrade, nothing toooo radical, haha.
The 17" Sport Classic's that came on the car have been replaced by a set of 18" Sport Classic II's, thanks to a fellow Rennlister in Miami. They had a few minor scuffs which the Alloy Wheel Repair Shop easily buffed out before putting a nice satin black finish on them, leaving the 20 torx head bolts in their natural stainless colour.
I thought I would skip the 'name brand' choices for tires for a change, and went with the Sumitomo's in 265/35 and 225/40. I read a few reviews on the Tire Rack site and they seemed pretty positive, so for $568.00 shipped...why not.
Having driven on them for the last 2 days I am pleased to report that compared to the BF Goodrich tires these are a huge plus. They are so quiet I was shocked. The car handles well in the dry, ( no rain day yet...), and the sidewall might be a little less stiff, because despite being a lower profile from the 17" 40/45 profile on the BF Goodrich's, the ride is as good or better.

Wow...they look awesome!! I can't recall seeing that combination of black wheel on aventurine car with the stainless bolts. The multi piece 18" wheel is a huge step up to the one piece 17" version.
