So even though some one with 311,700 on his engine using Mobil 1 10/40 and 15/50 you prefer other oil at $11.61 AND $17.00!

Don't be confused The $17 a quart is a Racing Oil, not a street oil...if it could be proven that the $17.00 a quart would save a racing engine, it would be cheap at $25.00 a quart I would think.

Mobil 1 is $9.00 a quart, more or less. If I were to pay $11.61 for Joe Gibbs DT 50, the oil change delta would be $31.32, cheap for peace of mind....assuming one can convince themselves that the Joe Gibbs Racing Oil is indeed superior.

Those with more than a fleeting interest in oil quality, would serve themselves well if they were to go to the LN Engineering site and click on the Joe Gibbs Racing Oil section.

Yes, but which series of Motul do you guys recommend? The one I've been using is 6100 Synergie. It seems to be the only type that comes in 15w-50 which I like to use in my car.

You want the 15W50 300V instead. The Synergie is a semi synthetic. 300V is full synthetic.

Yes, but I was told by the experts (Steve Weiner being one of them) that the semi-synthetic oil type is more than adequate in our cars. If you purchase a fully synthetic oil, you are really paying for an oil that has racing quality , one that tolerates more heat and higher engine speeds (>6,000 rpms), which is not necessary in our street cars.

I've found the best deal and a supreme boutique oil designed especially for our 993's to be the 6100 Synergie Motul 15w-50 oil. I've found it online for $7.55 a quart. Unfortunately, shipping brings the cost to about $9.80 / liter where I live in California. Still not bad since it's being shipped to my door!

Does anyone know what the difference is between Motul 15w-50 300V Factory Line and Motul 15w-50 300V Racing. One is in a black plastic container, the other in a silver container.
The Factory Line is readily available at my local motorcycle shop, the Racing is not.

According to Motul's website, the Factory line appears to be designed for motorcycles and the other 300V is for racing car engines.

Again, I don't see the need to purchase the 100% synthetic when Motul makes the semi-synthetic for our cars with all the protection it needs. Tony Callas is also an advocate of the 6100 Synergie oil. It's quite popular among Porsche shops.

Steve Weiner has forgotten more stuff than I even know. Listen to his recommendation regarding Motul.

Steve also recommends V-Twin and I agree.

Some sales/marketing info of LN Engineering site:
"In development for several years, we now offer DT40, a high zinc formulation for modern European Sports Cars in a 5w40 viscosity, specifically engineered for street use superior to any oil LN Engineering has previously used or recommended and has been thoroughly tested by Flat 6 Innovations and Jake Raby, coinciding with their joint development of the M96 and M97 engine platform. Additionally, for aircooled models, we now offer DT50, a high zinc formulation for older aircooled engines in a 15w50 viscosity, again specifically tested by Aircooled Technology, another Raby Enterprises company.

Both DT40 and DT50 are 100% fully synthetic motor oils based on group 4 and group 5 base oils with a proprietary additive package developed exclusively for Joe Gibbs by Lubrizol and is not sold or marketed under any other name or brand."

Everybody has their own opinions on the best oil, but I have been running Driven Oil in my car for the last few oil changes and so far it seems like my 930 is happy.
I have Driven DT50 on the website, here and you can use the RENNLIST 10% off code at checkout. I also have been selling a fare amount of Royal Purple lately, maybe people just like the color!

Jason,

Sounds like a very good option. I've known about Joe Gibbs oil but never tried it and didn't think it was this affordable. Perhaps for my next oil change.

Thanks for sharing an informative lead for motor oil for our cars in a pleasant and whole-hearted manner.

I was wondering what, if any, difference there is between the two. They are both for racing/competition in 4T engines. Would the Factory Line be a good choice for an aircooled Porsche engine ??

DT50 was the first oil that we developed with Gibbs. For years I did not divulge who was making the oil for us and simply marketed it to my aircooled customers as "Snake Oil". When the economy crashed and we had to sell 3,000 gallons/ year to have it made is when it was released to the public.

Of course, I run it in all of my aircooled Porsches, including my 993. At our facility you will only find Gibbs products, because we believe in what we develop and will use nothing that we do not have control over.
