As was said before, its really hard to select a sound based on on-line input - like posted videos, etc. The video recorder, depending on the microphone system, distance from the car, etc. will impact the sound quite a bit. You need to hear them in person, both standing behind the car, in the car, and outside during a drive-by. Its better if a bunch of cars are together as well.

A NA car and Turbo for instance sounds quite a bit different - the turbos naturally muffle the sound so they have different needs for a good exhaust. You personal preference is also huge factor, its all individual taste and even what your ears are sensitive to.

And of course there is what your neighbourhood and significant other will tolerate..

Cheers,

Mike

I also have the DACH X-pipe sport cats, with stock mufflers. Like the OP, I never cared for the V8 sound coming out of a 911. It just ain't right! IMHO, the best way to get what you describe is with sport cats. Talk w/ FD - they might be able to build a set for you.

My car came with Fabspeed mufflers and the drone is horrible.
Fister offer their stage III modification on fabspeed mufflers therefore I sent them away to be modified.

I think you would be happy with simple Fister II.

Thanks again.

My 964 with a G-pipe sounds a lot like a muscle car. I really miss the sound of my old 993 with the DACH X-pipe, it was awesome.

Running Fister II and very happy driving on a daily driver. This is what 993s should have sounded like from the factory. Not annoying at idle or cruise, nice sound at idle if outside the car, more growl under acceleration. Exceeded my expectations for a non-valved system (I have another car that has mechanical exhaust valves that open under acceleration).

Drove a Fabspeed with cats and they were too loud for me.

Although a big fan of the Fister 3s, I'll admit Han's old setup on the C2 is one of the best sounding setup I've heard on a 993 NA.

The best sounding combo I have heard was what ever Darin at FD motorsports has on his car. I would assume it was some combo of Fister muffler and sport cat, sounds awesome.

Love the Fister IIs but got pulled over for a u-turn in town last night and the Sheriff said the pipes sounded too loud. Got off with a warning on both the u-turn and pipes.

This is joe at fabspeed there are many many options for varying sports car sound on Porsche 993 cars. Each and very choice of component from catalytic converters, catbypass pipes, to x pipes to rear finally defines the sound level and ultimate sports car sound.

On my 993 RS Andial clone when I was club racing circa 1996 to 2001!and de driving I installed over and under cross over stylencat bypass pipes and Supercup mufflers. Essentially you can roll a golf ball out the tail pipe from the header collector made maximum power but was wicked loud. That was 13 years ago.

With advanced technology like, solidworks cad software and flow modeling, 3D printer in conjunction with investment casting and exhaust dyno development testing I created the ideal investment cast X pipe that ties both sides of the aircooled 993 engine together to make maximum power while attenuating sound. Trust me you get power and ripping sound with the X but its not too loud

On my 993 cabriolet I have fabspeed Motorsport X style pipes and fabspeed Maxflo mufflers and she's fast and Not too loud no resonance what so ever. My wife and I drive the car top down or top up and no issues. The bottom line it's a nice piece of engineering available with Catalytic converters or no catalytic converters.

Our Maxflo mufflers are available in two styles as well along with nice tips.

Cruise by our facility and see everything and drive the cars!

Smile I have tried them all….

…Chris from NC was making his X pipe….I had to have one, but he quit making them. I just had to have an X pipe, don't ask me why..I am a bit compulsive. Meanwhile I had tried Fabspeed cat delete pipes, cheap and they did the job, didn't like how the one pipe, in the cross-over design, was the diameter of the pipe lower than the other. Secondly, it was time for emissions testing so I had to put the stock cat back on, where it stayed for a long time. All during this time I tried most of the mufflers, including FD Motorsports: They make some great stuff.

My racing class at the time required a stock emissions system, had to have the cat, what kind of crap is that, but dem was the rules…

Then I changed classes where exhaust was free, but I still had to make 92dB sound at Laguna Seca (Subsequently, I now only run Laguna Seca on 105 dB days), so it was time to make a change, again. Came across the Fabspeed website and decided to pull the trigger. First impression, customer service was great, why I even talked to Joe Fab himself. Took delivery of the X pipe, which included the cat delete pipes, and the 200 cell sport cats, and ran them into stock mufflers. I was very impressed with the quality of the system. Ran at Laguna Seca, made 92 dB no problem. Post Laguna, off came the 200 cell cats where they sit in my garage, and on went the Fabspeed cat delete pipes. Enclosed is my dyno with X pipe, 200 cell cats and stock mufflers, HP was 252 coming from a bone stock motor, with about 75,000 miles on it. Prior to my Fabspeed (Religious?) conversion, my car puled 239 on the dyno. I'll take 13 HP, a little more torque and a better sound anyday. I have this dyno sheet too, but haven't bothered to scan it into a pdf.

As fate would have it, I found a Rennlister that wanted a set of stock mufflers in exchange for a set of vintage Fabspeed Maxflows. We did the deal…and that is the long and short of how I became the proud owner of a complete Fabspeed system. I love the sound….running with the cat delete pipes, it is not excessively loud, and the car seems to run better. Also note, the car has never thrown a CEL running Fabspeed cay delete pipes…but note, the car is a 99% track car, and it isn't babied around the city of local highways. I will have it on the dyno in the next couple of weeks: Required annually by my Club and will post the results. This is an unpaid testimonial: I just love the quality and results from Fabspeed products.

If you are looking to make a change, use the power of Rennlist to find someone in your area with the exhaust system you are lusting over. Sound clips are great, but up close and personal is the best. I am in the Central Coast of Cali (Paso Robles). I'll fire mine up for a Rennlister anytime.
