Default While I'm in there...

Just wondering if there is something else I should consider doing when I get the engine out...besides the original plan which was to replace the valve lifters, valve cover gaskets, cam chain gaskets and grommets, and the engine sound pad.

Anyone else who has 'been there, done that' as far as 'seals', etc goes? I'm not planning any physical upgrades at this time, like 're-gearing' the transmission, etc. Engine and tranny work well, just the occasional 'ticking' on startup that I thought I would address along with the slight weeping on the lower cam chain covers, while I have the engine out for the sound pad replacement. Just can't stand looking at that sagging morass of foam crap any longer!

But since I'm dropping the engine anyway might as well do whatever is logical to address at the same time. I am thinking of cleaning up the top of the engine by removing the SAI crap, its a '95 version so I guess I don't really need it...and I bought the bolt plugs from a Rennlist member a year or so ago anyway.

Cheers,
Jim

Engine thru bolt o-rings should be replaced with the green viton type one at a time.

Search for my thread "76,555 Mile Service" I put up in Dec. Although Adam's is much more thorough.

I also did DME sensors, SAI valve, you have a good chance at burned insulation on the SAI blower motor to address. MAF cleaning, fuel filter, IMS o-ring, RMS, yada yada....

The Porsche p/n is: 999 701 006 40

If you search pelican parts for this you will see they stock 5 types, one of which is D H P made of green Viton. These are the ones you want. Some use some Dow55 on them when they are installed. Porsche has a special tool to put these on over the threads of the thru bolts so they are not damaged. MikeJ used a sharpie cap to accomplish this (see http://www.pcarworkshop.com/index.php/Sealing_the_case_%28or_tomb%29)

I don't know if you can replace these without the pistons and cylinders off...

jakfrost, If you want you can send me a list of the part #'s you're wanting and I can see if I can save you some money.
