I'm getting a set of the Hankooks to replace a set of older Michelin PS2s. For as little as this car is driven replacing them more frequently is much more cost effective.

Wow, all those replies. You guys are awesome!
I think I'm going to go with the Sumi IIIs, the price is right and they seem to be getting the most praise on here.

Thanks for help!

In the December 2013 Excellence magazine tech notes (page 46) a reader asks about best tires for his 1996 C4. The response includes, "..... we suggest replacing all tires with the Bridgestone S-04 Pole Position, which is a very strong performer and will give you all the grip your 1996 C4's platform has to offer."

Cheers

Obviously, several good tire choices to be had. I am in need of fresh rubber, too. I will probably go with Michelin Pilot Super Sports on my factory 18s. They will replace PS2s, which I had a good experience with. Yes, maybe more costly, but amortized over a 5 year life span, well, it's not that much on a yearly basis.

Achilles ATR Sport all season, great street tire from tires-easy.com. About $400 for a set of 4.

I'm guessing Bridgestone brought in the highest ad revenue that month.

Default pp000830 thanks for the tire tip; @ $77 for a 255/40/Z17 what's not to like ...

+1
Just ordered 2 tires on a flyer .... we'll see what there all about. I've order PS2's in the past from www.tires-easy.com with good experience.

Here's a link to the Achilles brand company website: http://www.multistrada.co.id/en/about/

Hi Nourm.....noticed in your signature that you are going to be modding the car soon. I would be very interested in hearing what you plan on doing. I believe we have the same car ('96 C4 Coupe, Blk/Blk, Stock). I am planning to upgrade my suspension next month but keep thinking of Fister II also.

All tires mentioned are good, another tire that I know performs well in the dry and especially in the rain is the Continental DW. And it rains a lot here.

When I was comparing the Sumis III and Hankooks V12, Damon from Tire Rack suggested the V12s would offer better performance in wet conditions too. Dry conditions they are comparable.

Hey Obie. Exactly the same car. I'm having such a hard time deciding what to do next. My wallet is also hurting at the moment between the car and a kitchen renovation.
The wheels are getting done this weekend, really excited to see the Sport Classic IIs on the car, I think they look great and I'm hoping they'll change the feel for the better.
The next few mods on my mind are Fister IIs, Chrome exhaust tips, Suspension, and 996 sport seats. I'm leaning towards doing the exhaust next as its the most affordable and I'll be able to do that myself. Suspension is going to be pricey but will obviously have the most affect on the drive of the car. Seats are mostly cosmetic so that'll happen whenever I have the extra $$ laying around.

I've already done a few small mods that I haven't gotten around to adding to my sig: after-market HID headlights, drilled air-box, 996 3-spoke steering wheel, aftermarket head unit and speakers.

I'd love to hear more about what you're doing. Post some pics as well!

If budget is a primary concern, Sumi HTR ZIIIs are probably the best bang for the buck, especially for non track use cars.

For shifting enjoyment, GR is a great mod. Motor mounts either RS or WEVO will plant the rear nicely. Neither mod is terribly expensive.

I'd go with Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Have them on my M3 and they're a great tire both in wet and dry conditions.

A great tire but spendy.

More the double the cost of the Sumi or Hankook, and for sure not twice as good as either of those lesser cost tires.

If money is no object, yes.

I'll not spend my money on any "performance tyres" other than Yoko Advan AD08Rs.
sumis IIIs are OK
Ventus V12's are OK
bridgestone reo50s are OK

their performance envelope does not come close to the yoko's

I"m sure the michelin product is good, but I'd rather spend my $$ with a japanese company versus french.
