I am looking at the Sumi III's and the Mich Pilot SS. The Mich Pilot Super Sports appear to have wider tread ( just under an inch wider) for he same given tire size as compared to the Sumi III's

Now, compare the price between the two...

Highly debatable.

The Michelin is a better tire, for sure, but for a car that only sees street duty, the Sumis would give you 90% of what the Michelin gives you for less than half the price.

Like I said, if money is no object, Michelin.

Otherwise, it's hard to beat the bang for the buck the Sumi offers....

Two sets of Sumitomos for a set of Michelins. For as much as I drive this car, I'm still on the original set of PS2s new when I got the car +6 years ago. Many owners here would go through at least 2:1 rear to front tires in that period.

I've been seduced in the past by the 'deal' price and put Sumis on 2 cars - and had balancing problems with one set. They were ok tires but the grip, ride, noise level of the Michelins are simply better. Unless your 993 is a daily driver/appliance/unloved toaster then IMHO there are better things to save money on. The usual opinionfest with tires

Needing a dedicated summer tire for our MkV chassis VW so I took a flier on the much talked about Michelin Pilot Super Sports sized in 225/45/17, a OE size for the MY06 GLI chassis. Fitted since new with RoW VW/Eibach springs, Audi S3 brakes and recently with Bilstein B8 dampers.

Man,,, The PSS track like an arrow at any speed and equally when braking hard into ABS from say 80mph. The tire/car's performance in the CO mountains heavy rain/downpour/40F was outstanding. Very quiet, nice ride. An impressive summer tire.

Having run 993s with PS2's in Cup II 17" OE sizes for decades on the street including several DE's at Road Atlanta and elsewhere... I get it. These are tier one street tires. Man, the Pilot Super Sports are heavy duty performers.

I think that extra "10%" is HUGE, when you need it. I ran a lot of tires on my '84, and found that $ equals performance. I ran Advan R's as my last set, and the grip had fallen off a lot-coulda been heat cycle related. Comparing those to MPSC R's, those hung on until they corded.

I'm about to replace mine, based on age on the fronts, and will either go with Michelin or Bridgestones.

If I AX'd a bunch and burned them off regularly, I'd probably do Sumis for the price.

Sizes are 225/40- and 265/35-18 (N4-rated).

Can anyone answer me this--what is the difference between N4 and non-N4 rated Rossos? Has anyone tried the nonN-rated Rossos? Non-Ns are $42 cheaper in my sizes (Tire Rack), and I was curious to try them this time out?
The N rating just identifies a Porsche approved and tested tire.

How about summer tires for a 1995 2C that will never see a track?
