Default Tire suggestions?

Hey guys,
As the weather in NY is FINALLY starting to get better, I'm getting ready to bring out the 993 again. Over the winter I bought a set of Sport Classic IIs from a fellow Rennlister (thanks Scott!) and I'm deciding on what tires to put on there.
For reference, I have C4 coupe and when the weather is warm enough I drive it daily. In NY, this means possibly driving in some rain. That being said, I'm looking for equal parts performance, comfort, and decent handling in wet conditions. I don't need it to be amazing in the rain, just safe.
So first decision is All-season or summer? If i can get away with summers in the rain then I'd love to have the performance that offers.
Next is, which brands. Looking for something affordable from Tirerack.
Right now I'm deciding between Sumitomo HTR Z II/III, Kumho Ecsta 4X, General G-MAX AS-03.
As always, any and all input is HUGELY appreciated.

Sumitomo HTR Z III (not II).

Recommend doing a search on this tire, you will see dozens and dozens of recommendations.

I have a set going on in a few weeks - can't be beat at the price.

Cheers

Matt

Thanks for the quick reply Matt.
I know the dry performance is great on those, but in your experience, how do they do in rain?

+993.

I highly recommend the Sumi HTRZ III as well. Arguably, the best tire for the money on the market.

Typically summer tires are better in wet than all-seasons as long as it's warm and we are not looking at slicks (based to tirerack testing that have read)

My Bridgestone S04 performed very well on a rainy 60 degree drive as well as in dry winter driving.

For proper tire test data mosey on over to Auto Motor und Sport. You'll want a translation feature from say Outlook or other. ,,, However the direction the 993 forum suggests, the Sumitomo HTR Z III could be a winner. "Arguably"

Something to keep in mind; Chassis's are not all alike, nor are tires of the same type but different sizes. A handful of the 993s gents here in rainy Atlanta kneel to the Sumitomo HTR Z III .

I use a set of the 17 inch Falken Euro 449 snow tires on Cup II rims as "Rain Tires" when in the mountains of Colorado for the summer. However your in the City or out on the island during hot summer months.... that's all together different.

+1, do NOT get the II, they are terrible in the wet, very scary. I had them on my 911SC, when I sold the car, the buyer was driving the car back to Oklahoma. No way was I going to let him make that drive on those tires, so we split the cost of new tires before he took it.

I currently have the IIIs, while much better than the IIs, it rains so little here, I really don't have much experience with them in the wet.

For DD, I am pretty happy with the HTR ZIIIs.

+1 on the Sumitomo HTRZ III. Best price I've found so far is $513.82 + shipping. No affiliation.

I would like to know logic behind this. From what I know about winter tires, this approach makes no sense to me, but perhaps I'm missing something.

Mike, Tire Rack has a set of 4 Sumis for $518, but for WB fitment. Price might be the same, or even less, for NB fit.

Never heard of onlinetires.com before.....

We're fans of the Hankook V12 EVO's...with four cars shod with them! Excellent prices, quiet ride, responsive and symmetrical (so you can flip them for added life). No dedicated track tire, mind you, but excellent to go find some twisty roads. Wet or dry, they're good down to just above freezing.

Dont forget the inquire about the date codes if ordering from Tire Rack; and I'd ask for something written from them in order to avoid being another recipient of 3 yr old rubber; controlled climate or not!

+1 on trackrat's comment ^^^

My experience with the HRT Z III is they perform quite well in wet conditions.

I run these on MY02/18.... Great all around tire for summer. I have AX in them as well in the wet, and were not that bad..
