Default Any advice on how to do Le Mans?

I think I'm going to Le Mans this year. Anyone out there do this before? Any advice would be helpful. I plan on camping.
Thanks.

Nothing yet? How about ideas for places to look for such advice?
Think it over.

I'd go to pistonheads for advice on this. The Brits truly know how to "do" Le Mans.

We did Le Mans in 2010. Can't be much help, however.

My wife and I were hosted by American Le Mans Series brass-stayed in a 500yo chateau about 20 min from track, access to Michelin VIP compound, grandstand seats, trips to viewing spots on Mulsanne Straight, sat with team principals on the main platform for driver's parade, Flying Lizard suite above their pit. A race nut's dream. My wife even thought it was an awesome experience, and she could care less about racing. I still smile thinking about it.

Having said that, we saw plenty of "happy campers". Truthfully, I like a little comfort- I'd look at one of the "tent cities", where you can rent tents in pretty decent spots-some with dining and non-public restrooms that are available. Go to the Radio Le Mans website and follow their travel links. You can see a number of reasonable choices.

We flew to Paris, took the train down to Le Mans, and had a rental car.

The Le Mans camping is area huge and as mentioned ... overwhelmingly Brit's.
Are you considering for the 2015 campaign?

We've rented a house only minutes outside of the city as properties are often available. Good luck its a great outing.

You just drive in and pitch your tent. At least that is what I did years ago. There are a LOT of campers and there is a crazy atmosphere with the cars blaring away in the background and all the stuff going on inside the track. Don't expect to sleep much.

Call the Porsche Travel Service and ask them to help you arrange a package.

Thanks for the thoughts.
Ed, yes, this is the sort of thing I'm looking for. That's just the experience I want ; )
I would love to rent a tent rather than bring one along. I was hoping for something like that.
I'm planning on doing it this year.

There's a hotel/restaurant in a small town south of the track approx 15-20 minutes.

Big hang out on Thursday and Friday for drivers at lunch and dinner. The parking lot in front has an incredible collection of cars.

Unfortunately the name escapes me. Perhaps because of all the wine we drank during the trip. (Maybe another 'Lister knows the place I'm talking about...)

About 25 of us from "Hey Wait For Me Racing" and Rennlist went over for the 2005 race. About five or six days. Our tour guide was Adrian Streather (yes, that Adrian Streather). He knew his way around, fer shure.

We stayed in a chateau as well, though it had more rustic charm than elegance. (You can't see the holes in the roof in the pic...)
We had a blast. You're gonna love it

(BTW, love your handle )

I think, but am not positive, that it is Hotel De France in Chateau Du Loir

Just had a few pics on my IPhone of the trip. Hangin' with FLMS, our chateau and a couple of track pics. The ferris wheel actually gave a pretty awesome view of the cars coming onto the front straight.

PS Owen, many of the tent sites were on platforms and had parking right there. There were even little modular huts. As I said, I'm liking a little comfort as I get older, and rain is pretty common for the race-not setting a pup tent up in the mud has advantages!

We stayed in one of the modular setups run out of the UK. Great location, a real bed and they even had a restaurant tent and showers. This facility and the folks running it totally made the event for us.

Hey Guys,
Thanks so much for all this. This is a good start. I'm trying to do it on the "not expensive" side. I know it's not cheap, but don't want to spend big $. Ed, that looks like an amazing time. I'll check into all this info. Again, thank you and I'm so looking forward to seeing Porsche challenge Audi and Toyota.
YAY!
