While searching for a set of MY02s, I came across a set of twists via craigslist. I exchanged emails with the seller and they seemed promising, so I went and took a look at them today. Upon investigation, I Googled the part numbers and was surprised to find that they seem to be hollow spokes! That said, I'm confused by the stampings on the rear wheels. There are 2 different part numbers and 2 different size markings. Any insight as to why?

I still plan on tracking down some MY02s, but these will tide me over.

Tire sizes are:
FRONT TIRES SIZE 225/40ZR18
REAR TIRES SIZE 265/35R18

Those are correct but you got the 7.5" fronts. There are also 8" that are preferred but I don't think there are any issues with the 7.5's.

Those are optional wheels from an early 996. I bought a set just like that many years ago to use as track wheels. They came off of a '99 996 and are also 7.5" fronts with two part numbers on the rears. I'd imagine the rear center carries two different part numbers as these hollow spokes were also optional wheels on the Boxster which uses a 9" rear. Probably the same center could have been mated to either a 9 or 10" rim at the factory during production.

The delivered from the factory hollow spokes on my 993 are 8" fronts and only have one part number on the rears.

Interesting. So the set is 7.5 fronts and 10 rears? Is there a way to know for sure, other than dismounting the tire and measuring?

How can you tell from the photos it is the "A" specs (10") since the fronts are 7.5" which would be the Boxster size and normally be matched with the "B" spec (9") as Van1 stated?

It's because one side will be backwards, when you put them on.

Both 996 and Boxster were fitted with 7.5" front hollows. Probably the reason why there are so many 7.5s on the market and not too many 8"s that the 993 would have come with. They both work fine on the 993 however.

That may be true, but that still doesn't explain how Harlan knows that the pictured rear wheels are 10" unless he was basing it on your statement they were 996 wheels. Is there a telltale sign that distinguishes the 996 turbo twists from the Boxster ones?

I don't know how Harlan can tell they are 10" from the picture. I made an assumption they were 996 wheels therefore 10" rears based on the OP purchasing these for his 993. I would have thought that size info would have been disclosed in the Craigslist ad and were proper for a 993 and the reason the OP purchased them. Maybe this wasn't the case and I made a bad assumption.

Measuring them should clear up any confusion.

I had a set of 7.5/10s on my C4 and they worked fine, even though I had other issues mainly with the tyres and the general tram-lining caused by 18" rims.

If I recall correctly there's another casting mark on the rears showing a grid with A and B with an X mark against one of them. I've looked through my photo records but can't confirm.

You give me too much credit.

I bought them not knowing there were twists for both a 911 and a Boxster. And the Craiglist ad wasn't much help. The seller had them listed as 10"/12". I knew enough to know that was wrong.

I'm happy to report that Peter B's tip has solved the mystery. There is a stamp that I missed. It marks the wheels as the 'A' option, meaning the 10" wheel!
