Re-Introduction: My New C2S Garage Find
I haven't contributed to the NA forum for a number of years as I was spending my time on the 993TT forum. I had 6 great years with my RUF Turbo R and sold it a couple of months ago. Much to everyone's surprise, I haven't regretted the sale and am happy the the new owner is enjoying it.
In the past several months, luck has been on my side with air-cooled Porsches. In the spring, I bought an '85 911 Cab Euro from my neighbor - the original owner. The mechanicals ($$) were in great shape and the cosmetics needed some attention. The price was great and I have been enjoying getting it back to excellent condition, doing most of the work myself.
Back on topic to the 993 forum, a few weeks ago I was at a scout campout. The adult's conversation turned to cars, and I found out that one of the new dads had a '97 993 C2S 66k miles sitting in his garage. He bought it new and drove it for years, but about 5 years ago lost interest when he had babies, etc. Most importantly, his wife wanted it gone. I was on that deal like white on rice. The very same day the campout was done, I was at his house with a checkbook.
I purchased the car on the spot - but it had not been started in 5 years. It was a big risk on my part. But the body was excellent, all the records were there, and it passed my visual and "instinct" inspection. I bought a new battery, pulled the DME to build oil pressure, cranked and pressure came up immediately, put the DME in ... and it instantly fired up. No smoke, no drama, even the lifters were quiet.
I filled up the tires with air while the car idled for about 5-10 minutes, said goodbye, and drove the car home about 1 mile. Besides the completely square tires, the car was surprisingly smooth, even the shifting. Whew, dodged a big bullet on that - so far!
Once I got the car home - in between several business trips and other conflicts - I changed every fluid and filter. Including draining the gas - it was as dark as maple syrup and fortunately only had 1 gallon in it. I have fixed a few trim items (door seals, etc) and added new wheels/tires. I spent about 2 hours with one pass of polish and wax. And it has turned out to be an amazing car. Everything works as it should - I am really really surprised how lucky that I am!
It has the standard C2S options plus the full leather comforts seats with crest (I removed and stored them as I prefer my GT3 seats) and the root wood shifter and brake handle. Those did not age well and are being replaced with standard C2S gear on order from Sunset and being produced in Germany.
The car has been lowered somehow, but it has the Monroe shocks. Still haven't figured that out yet. But I like the stance and it rides very well. PSS10s will find there way on there eventually.
While I won't disclose the price, I will tell you that it was well below half of retail - but remember - I took a gamble on a non-running car and won!
I look forward to being back on the NA side of things. It can be more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow. And that summarizes where I am on this car vs. the RUF.

Nice score on a beautiful car!
One detail you left out (I'm Texas993's brother) is that you disclosed the car's value to the seller and he then suggested the sales price.

And to my brother's point on sales price. Honesty is definitely the best policy if you want to remain friends. The seller is someone that I will know for years. So we had an open and honest discussion on price. I had the capital, expertise, and desire. He wanted the immediate capital more than the car + the expense of what the dealer would charge him to do what I did to bring the car up to 100%. A great deal for both of us!

Well, done. I had the same thing happen to me. While out for a few drinks with friends, the conversation turned to cars and one friend-of-a-friend mentioned he was bored with his car, a Porsche 993 C4S. Original owner and full records. The price was so good, I had to have it. Done deal!
