Default 18" technology wheels the "hollow-spoke"?

Hey Listers,

The question I have for somebody "in-the-know" is this:
Are the 18 inch "Technology Wheels" as an option on the 993, are these the "Hollow Spoke"?

Thanks for any info!

Bert

I have that option on my '96 NB coupe and they're solid spoke.

I believe option code 408 is for the hollow spoke wheels, you can check your hood sticker to see if that code is listed. Regarding the term "technology wheels" I think that this referred to the hollows, while "turbo look" was Porsche speak for the solids.

Question- What cost difference was there between these wheels and what difference do you see in the market today? I have one set of each... just curious. and this is not a veiled attempt to sell my wheels

My current 993 has the 408 option code but the Certificate of Authenticity from PCNA states that is for "18-inch Wheels." Car didn't come with the original wheels so I don't know if they were the hollows, but I doubt they were.

My old C4S had a standard "option" code 413 which is for "18-inch Turbo-Look Wheels."

Hope this helps.

The price range for a set of NB hollow wheels will vary anywhere from $1200-$2500 depending on the condition of the wheels. The price range for solid spoke wheels varies from $0-$600. The hollow wheels hold their value due to their rarity, as well as their ability to be used as light weight track wheels.

In the past, I have sold hollows in good condition (not pristine) for $1200-$1500 and given solid wheels away for free.

No doubt hollows are worth more, but 0-600 seem low for solids. In good condition id say 800. Btw, if you plan on giving away any more solids, let me know.

Keep in mind all the TTs came factory with hollows so that spikes up the number right there.

The front hollow spoke wheels are the same for the NB, but I was under the impression that rear hollow spokes for an NB are even more rare.

I have a set for my NB, which I purchased from one of our distinguished RL'ers here. And I'm keeping them.

The technology wheel styles are not listed in my Porsche US or ROW parts catalogs,
Seeing that the wheel offset for the narrow body Carrera is likely very different from the C4S & Turbo the technology wheel is likely not friction welded as the hollow spoke version on the wide bodied cars is.

For me chrome drops the value 50% or more.

NB hollows are rare, WB hollows not really.

I just looked at the window sticker from my car, it reads 18'' wheels with Technology Rims for $1,785
And they are Hollow spokes.
