It's good to be air cooled
I was out with a friend this weekend enjoying a spirited drive through the country side when we hit a rough road. We both hit a patched rise in the road. My C2S bottomed out with awful clang, but thankfully no damage. My friend wasn't so lucky. He was running in a modified 97 Boxster with a 997S engine, and the hose for the engine coolant ripped open and spilled coolant all over the place. It's good to be air cooled. Just one less thing to worry about.

Your right Al, it's great to be air cooled.
And thanks Curvelover, I feel likely every time I get behind the wheel of a 993. Also very lucky to have found Rennlist, and all the support from enthusiasts like you and Al.
Nile13, I PM'd you with some of the best country roads around here (you probably know them) and which one to avoid!

Somewhat off topic, but man those look like seriously gnarly asphalt patches! You guys must have been really cooking for the suspension to compress enough to bottom out. When I see a road that even moderately sucks, I slow waaaaaaay down, yikes!! Perhaps that's the real solution here
Glad you both suffered only this very minor malady considering all them trees!

We slowed down as soon as we hit the rough road, but at 15 mph (edit, ok maybe 30 or so) we both nailed this patch of asphalt that literally stuck out two to three inches above the grade. Based upon the battle cars we saw on that patch we weren't the first.
Andreas, I have no idea what's bottoming. The uwe gemballa suspension is about two inches lower than ROW, so about two or three times a season it makes contact some where. I will have a close look when it's next up on the lift. Great for the track, but not so great for New England pot holes.

I wouldnt be there this weekend with Porsche clubs. Just did two this past Saturday and Sunday, two the weekend prior and I'm due for a break. Though... I'll have to think about it. Can't run a convertible on race tires with Porsche clubs, need a roof or a rollbar. Between that and my brother's B-day on Saturday, I should probably do an adult thing and say no

I had an 86' 911. Some road debris was thrown up in the right front wheel well, pumped all the oil out of the system and onto the road in moments, oil water they're all fluids that can get loose.
